Flashermac
THE NATION 29 Jan 2009 Lop Buri - Nineteen soldiers were injured, four severely, when they were fired on by a helicopter that was supposed to provide air support during a war exercise here Wednesday. Sources said the mishap happened at about 10 am during an exercise by a battalion of the Lop Buri-based Special Warfare Command. Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda witnessed the war exercise. As part of the exercise, some 20 soldiers were flown by helicopter to mount an attack on an "enemy" position. The soldiers were supposed to charge their destination, while another helicopter fired at the unmanned enemy position to cover them. However, machinegun fire from the helicopter struck the soldiers instead. They were rushed to Ananda Mahidol Hospital.
