Flashermac
The money is supposed to go to civilians, who did not bring on the conflict. We held rebuild Germany, Italy and Japan after WWII ... what was left of them.
drogon
The "supposed" is the one upsetting me as I seem to remember the last time Gaza received some financial aid -> it was appropriate by some money hungry guys as well as by the hamas... Nice way to fund further weapons purchase and maybe a part of the funds will effectively go to the starving children and dying local economy. kamui
The money is supposed to go to civilians, who did not bring on the conflict. We held rebuild Germany, Italy and Japan after WWII ... what was left of them. A big part of the money will end in the pocket of corrupt Palestinian officials. A huge part of the money will, hopefully, be being used for rebuilding the infrastructure - until Israel will destroy it again, funded by US money too. The EU is giving millions to the Palestinians since many years. In the end most was wasted in one way or the other. It's vicious cycle which won't end for many years to come. TheCorinthian
It was very obvious to us that in Iraq, if we gave them cash, the local and national big wigs got at least 50% of it in their bank accounts. We even found one of the few we prosecuted used about $10m to buy a house in the South of France. If we gave them stuff, about 75% of it wound up on the black market in Syria and Jordan. Kuwait was the only gov that I ever saw call us to get the stuff back that they had captured. Unless we actually built them a building or dug them a well or gave them the shot of polio vaccine, the common people who the money was for in the first place next to never saw it. I suspect Gaza is no different.

cavanami
Are there "strings" tied to the financial aid? Sometimes these are loans and must be paid back.
