kamui
Anyway, this rules will definitely help the the Dubai authorities to keep those annoying tourists out of the country. It will support the current trend in the tourism industry that tourists prefer cheaper destinations close to their home. :content:
The_Munchmaster
I don't know why Shygye has entitled this thread as "Dubai, No To Tourists" when the article he has quoted is adddressed to the residents of Dubai? In the present financial climate tourists who've got money will continue coming to Dubai and those who don't probably won't. Certainly Dubai tourism arrivals will drop but it will have nothing to do with these rules.
itsmedave
If foreigners make up 80% of the population...then how is it a "Muslim majority" country. Kind of like the governor of California trying to outlaw the speaking of Spanish in public.
gobbledonk
Seriously, how many of you have lived in a tourist town with public beaches ? Have you ever been confronted by a 60-plus German couple wearing outfits that would make a porn star blush *in the main freaking street* ? Yes, I get it - we Aussies have too many hangups and Europeans are much freer, but I dont really want to see the outline of some guys knob while I am trying to eat fish and bloody chips ! Tits are great, but not when they hang down around your ankles. As for public drunkeness, is there a single board member who has been out on a Saturday night and not been disgusted by some of the antics of twats who cant hold their booze ? Wouldnt you love to see them all carted away to a really unpleasant prison, presumably to be placed in the tender care of *Turkish* prison guards ? The more I hear about Sharia law, the more inclined I am to book a flight to Pakistan
cavanami
...Sharia law? this is a bit tough to take. Drunks? been there and got the tee shirt. Knob extended in a swim suit, naaah, try to avoid that. ...but know where you are coming from. The USA, I think, is far more puritanical then OZ, IMO. Does it mean, that the rules don't apply to tourists? :content: I remember the report a few months ago that some unsuspecting travellers (tourists and business travellers alike) being prosecuted because customs found some poppyseeds or something similar on/in their clothes. Those poppyseeds obvioulsy came from food like bread or cake with poopyseed (which is not uncommon in some Eureopean countries). What's the reason to go to Dubai anyway except spending huge sums of money on expensive hotels and for luxury shopping?
The_Munchmaster
Does it mean, that the rules don't apply to tourists? No, I'm sure the rules apply to everyone, but they are the same rules that have always been there and you'd have to flaunt them fairly badly to get done. I remember the report a few months ago that some unsuspecting travellers (tourists and business travellers alike) being prosecuted because customs found some poppyseeds or something similar on/in their clothes. Those poppyseeds obvioulsy came from food like bread or cake with poopyseed (which is not uncommon in some Eureopean countries). I remember, but it was only one case of someone having a tiny amount of some drug on the sole of there shoe. It wasn't however a poppy seed from a cake. The drug penalties here are severe and in that case OTT, although the person was eventually released. What's the reason to go to Dubai anyway except spending huge sums of money on expensive hotels and for luxury shopping? That and beaches I suppose. It certainly wouldn't be my choice for a holiday but plenty of people do enjoy staying in luxury hotels, lying on beaches and shopping.
cavanami
I have seen all the sea snakes crawling on top of the water certain times of the year...errr, go to the beach...not for me!
The_Munchmaster
I've never seen a sea snake in Dubai waters and I'd be surprised if anyone has ever been bitten. I did catch one while diving in Qatar in 1989 but their mouths are so small that it would be very difficult for them to bite a human.
