shygye
Link Playing loud music, dancing, nudity, kissing and even holding hands in public is considered inapproppriate behaviour under new guidelines laid down by the authorities of Dubai, reports say. Arabic-language daily Al Emarat Al-Youm said the Dubai Executive Council had urged residents of Dubai, where foreigners make up more than 80 per cent of the population, to respect the customs of the Muslim majority country and avoid inappropriate behaviour. The rules, which apply to all public places, include a ban on all forms of nudity, playing music loudly and dancing, exchange of kisses between men and women -- and even on unmarried couples holding hands. Any breach of the guidelines, by nationals or expatriates, carries a possible prison penalty, the paper said. The guidelines also stipulate that anyone caught under the influence of alcohol -- even small amounts -- outside designated drinking areas is liable to being fined or imprisoned, the paper added. ... Mekong
Quite common for most liberal Middle Eastern countries, not to be seen drunk in public. Catching a cab from designated drinking area to a private residence or another drinking area is acceptable, staggering down the streets is not. ..
Ya, but that's not what the law says nor how it *could* be enforced. Nothing to prevent them from stopping the taxi and arresting you. Cheers, SD
The_Munchmaster
None of this is new, it's always been the law but just very leniently enforced. However for some people that isn't enough (particularly the English when it comes to drunkeness and eastern European women for walking around in public with very little on :hubba: ) and so maybe they're going to be a little less lenient (however I don't think I'll notice any difference). Having said that the chances of you been stopped by the police coz you've had a drink is next to nil but if you are pissed in public and causing a nuisance you may well be lifted, which is fair enough. It's interesting to note that bars in Dubai stay open later than bars in Bangkok and the closing time is fixed, not some arbitrary time which the police can change at a whim.
