Sakai
Morons, they do and say nothing against their fanatics but are also unable to do something as simple as that. Some 200 mosques in Islam's holiest city, Mecca, point the wrong way for prayers, reports from Saudi Arabia say. All mosques have a niche showing the direction of the most sacred Islamic site, the Kaaba, an ancient cube-like building in Mecca's Grand Mosque. But people looking down from recently built high-rises in Mecca found the niches in many older mosques were not pointing directly towards the Kaaba. Some worshippers are said to be anxious about the validity of their prayers. There have been suggestions that laser beams could be used to make an exact measurement. Tawfik al-Sudairy, Islamic affairs ministry deputy secretary, downplayed the problem in remarks quoted by the pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat. "There are no major errors but corrections have been made for some old mosques, thanks to modern techniques," he said. "In any case, it does not affect the prayers." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7984556.stm
khunsanuk
Hi, "Some worshippers are said to be anxious about the validity of their prayers." Somehow I think that the imaginary person those prayers are addressed to doesn't really care either way Sanuk!

Bangkoktraveler
Are any prayers answered? And if they are, is the enveloped properly stamped so the addressee doesn't have to pay extra postage?

ALHOLK
... and they didn't notice 'til now. One would have suspected that Allah would have been seriously pissed off with misaligned prayers by now and removed their testicles with a blunt farming implement. Need the infidels to design a proper mosque. Not surprising as they needed a Swedish company (Silva) to produce prayer mats with compass that always pointed towards Mecca, hopefully not misaligned. Mekong
ETIHAD Airlines have Mecca marked on the TV screens so that the passengers know what direction Mecca is in relation to the direction the plane is moving in. Nothing special about that, so does Emirates Qatar and Gulf Air, Saudi Airlines even has a prayer room at the rear of the aircraft taking up the equivalent of the last 4 rows of the central seats. Many hotels have a pointer towards the Kaaba in the drawer where the gideon bible is usualy stashed, this is true for Singapore which is a non muslim country but has many Malay visitors. I recall Saudi Aramco Engineering Standard (SAES 11) having the coordinates of direction that prayer rooms should face in Degrees, Minutes and Seconds for more than 70 locations, as well as defining the number of water faucets for pre prayer washing, number and size of each praying area etc, we are talking about multi billion dollar oil and gas plants where the prayer room is the most important thing.
