imperial
I am a little confused on how they sell the mobile phone time , do you buy a fixed amount at a wholesale price and sell small bits of it for a profit ? BK
mainsail
Does anyone know if the Thai PUD buys power from small, personal generating systems? Thailand is such a good climate for solar. Even a small solar farm could produce a steady income if the PUD is set up (as it is here) to buy power from private systems.
CTO
BkkDreaming - the time is paid in cash to AIS - however all operators do this. Then the "credit" is transferred to buyer's phones in the village - ask any bar girl and she'll show you how to transfer credit from your phone The seller charges a 5 baht per transaction premium Mainsail - Thai Electrical Authorities EGAT are seriously considering buying excess power from home generation - just not a sophisticated enough yet. 2 and 3 layer solar is quite common - many remoter villages have houses with solar paid for by EGAT $8/watt is about the price to buy solar kits wholesale including batteries, Most small business or homes could pay off investment in about 2 - 3 years. 2 and 3 layer is great - as long as there is light to read you get power - old days you needed sunshine - which made solar impractical for the tropics. WorldFun
'online credit' resales sounds like easy great little earner, but to boost it a bit would it perhaps be possible to get some sort of 'cut' from the operators? 1 (big) step further would be operating a 'virtual network' i.e. buying call time from operator(s) & reselling it at a profit
CTO
We're working with a mobile shopping system that can be used to send credit back to villages without the expence of going to a ATM - think like this - 1000 baht is a lot for a normal worker in bangkok to send to a village parent - cost of going to a ATM machine can be up to 200 baht - 20%~! So our suggestion has been to use mobile credit and sales as a point of cash dispersion and financial movement.
imperial
I am confused why they want to buy mobile phone time and pay 5 baht extra and not just go to 7-11 and get a refill card there, BK
shygye
... because they can afford 30 baht and not 200 baht.
imperial
ok, understand now does this work with all the mobile phone carriers ? thanks BK
CTO
Also the 7/11 is 100 baht by bus away! Most carriers do it but AIS is best for rural coverage. Hence most have AIS a few DTAC when there's a good promotion, no one up here using True - remember this is about generating income in remoter areas.
