Still think the Dot Bomb bust of the late 90s showed just how poorly some so-called 'Executives' can handle laying off staff. One of the bigger busts had people being left phone messages to the tune of: 'This is HR - pack up your desk and Security will escort you from the building in 10 minutes'. Anecdotes tell of people not even checking for the message - as soon as the light on their phone started blinking, they packed up and left, many in tears. Way to go, HR 'professionals' ....

RB

As one door closes another one slams shut in your face. Enjoy your down time and I am sure that you will pick up another position as and when you are interested and the terms & conditions match your requirements.

I am not sure if I got lucky or I am just maturing but I have found that I am being offered better options compared to 20 years ago, the cost of living keeps going up yet we all keep paying it.

Make the most of your downtime then come back stronger ... Good Luck Bro.

Sorry to hear about you illness sayjann.

If I may I suggest that if you could at all try and make it to the office. Let them all see how ill you are then there is just that chance that your boss won't want you in the office in that condition send you home with full pay or at least appreciate how ill you are.

I've seen this happen to a number of people. The boss doesn't appreciate how ill you are until he/she sees it with their own eyes.

Not that I'm sure you need to put anything on, but a few attempts at up chucking into the paper bin also helps. You other colleagues will go in a body to the boss to allow you home.

Hope you treatment is helping.

thanks for the kind words, but things not so simple.

i don't look ill as the illness is inside the body.

i have good and bad days on the medication therefore not always ill.

i am reluctant to tell anyone except the official hospital health dept what is going on because my medical problems/records are private.

i know if i tell my boss then my health poblems will be the talk of all my collegues within 12 hours.

i'm back to work on Friday and expect some form of discipline during the next week.
