Faustian
Btw, was part 3/4 etc ever shown?
chuckwoww
Yes indeed. And available on Youtube. The general consensus (from message boards that keep up with these matters) is that it's getting a bit boring. Howard does his best to maintain the honour of the Tourist Police Volunteers but there's only so much he can do. A lot of good stuff gets lost in the editing process too apparently. whitelotuslane
Just watched the lot of it.. The first two episodes are pretty shocking towards Thailand.. But episode 3 and 4 are more typical of what you'd shoot in any holiday location for this type of program, and Thailand and the Thais come out a lot better as well. For episode 1 and 2 though, people can easily say 'fuck that could have been me'.. Like when the young girl says someone handed her some weed and a moment later she was arrested.. That wasn't quite the truth it turns out in the next episode, but during that first episode that was the image: big dance party, a tiny bit of weed, and the voice over is blabbering about long jail terms, and the nasty issues of corruption and bribes with the 18 year old girl crying behind bars. Well guess what's established at the very end of episode 2: No bribes were paid or requested, she made a reasonable 60K bail, she went to court and the judge basically just gave her a warning, and a suspended sentence.. Meanwhile there's the ludicrous episode already filmed with the 2 bit jet ski criminal speaking perfect English: again, the sentiment must be that such could happen to anyone renting a jet ski, but without a navy daddy to come bail you out. After that it gets better for Thailand, mostly because the tourists/foreigners/criminals featured are truly complete tools, or actual criminals, or both. And the Thai police also look a lot better. There's even time for some nice shots of Songkran in Chiang Mai, with the worst thing served up is a girl falling off a motorbike and getting scratched, but only slightly injured. Overall though it wont do Thailand any favors. Surprising eh.
cavanami
I wonder how many episodes there are?
shygye
Did she get the 60k baht bail money back?
whitelotuslane
Almost certainly they did; after all bail was officially posted, with information and directions from the consul, and she didn't flee. So the money was returned. (And, they would have mentioned it if it somehow wasn't but honestly that just doesn't happen when bail is posted properly)
