The_Munchmaster
I bought my second HP Pavillion DV series laptop last week (previous one was almost 4 yo).
Mekong
Munchie, Do you agree with my synospis that Pavilion DV series is more of a portable Desktop / Multii-Media Centre as opposed to a day to day laptop?
The_Munchmaster
Not really Mekong. I don't think they are particularly heavy (must check but I think my new 15.6" is lighter than previous 14") and I wouldn't have a problem to carry every day. By that I don't mean carry around with me all day (who does that?) but carry to and from work.
Palatkik
Does HP Pavillion make a laptop these days that isn't covered in silly teenage style graphics on its shell... cannot they just make a plain color shell like in the past, and like Dell does today? I need to look presentable at boardroom meetings, not like I just finished mixing a new mp3 tune on it, before I watch porn on it at night. I think all the HP Pavillion have graphics on the shell although I wouldn't exactly describe them as "silly teenage style". I would prefer not to have them but it wouldn't bother me having to take my laptop into a meeting. I need to look presentable at boardroom meetings, not like I just finished mixing a new mp3 tune on it, before I watch porn on it at night. Even though that is what you did. Cheap Charley
Yup get it in the USA if that is where you are. I looked at best buy and they had a ASUS for a great price that will do all that you ask plus it has a 9.5 hour battery life and orginal OEM software windows 7. i just looked in Pantip and they did not have as good of deals. I heard that Acer is having a bad year too bad, I am looking as my 4 yr Acer is long in the tooth but still working hard, just can't get a big enough hard drive for the motherboard, so I am going to be forced to move up to a new one soon which will be Assus

I the price is of no concern I would opt for the 17" Macbook Pro by Apple. It's a real high-end notebook which weights just 6.6 pounds (2.99 kg). My boss wants to have it, but we'll have to wait, since the new version with the latest CPU is due to come out in March.
torrenova
You are obviously well out of touch with the market as shown by your required specs so I'll start on why you want a 17" laptop. Surely if it is too big to move, a PC would be a better option ? As a laptop suggestion, a 15" Lenovo B/G550 is a good start (just bought the 450 myself) but Acer do 16"+ in their Aspire series. Have a look here: http://www.hwhinter.com/price.php select notebook http://www.notebookspec.com/web/search.php you should be able to work out the search criteria

You can work on this laptop for 9.5 hours solid before the battery needs a recharge? Wow!
