Best Point n Shoot?

For around 5-6000bht and slips disreetly in the pocket?

SLR's are too unwieldy for carting around in the evening.

Recommendations please,even though the Lumix looks nice.

The small Canon Ixus camera. Fit easily in the pocket and make good images. But like all small pocket cameras in this price range they are bad in low light situations.

I have a Panasonic Lumix FX-38 which I love -- it does everything very well. It is a couple of years old now. The new ones are even better. Highly recommended.

 

Can even get a real underwater housing for (some) of them -- I have for my 38. :up:

I'm a Canon man so would recommend either the Powershot A3100 IS (probably about Bt. 5,000) or the IXUS 105 IS (probably about Bt. 5,500 - 6,000).

 

Personally I have a Canon S90 which is superb but it's more than double the budget.

I would say anything by Canon or Nikon would be good.

Lusty- If you can splurge a bit, I think the Canon S90 is the best thing going. Great low light pictures with no flash or shutter noise. Great stealth camera. Can get an underwater housing. Burst mode has given me some great shots in venues that are almost completely black, but have a strobe light flashing.

The S90 is great but has recently been replaced with the S95, which is very similar but has full HD video recording with stereo sound. I would expect it'll cost about Bt. 16-17000.

 

I'm sure the S90 will still be available though at a lower price.

I just replaced my S90 with a new S95. Both are excellent cameras. You can find lightly used like-new S90s for well under $300, often with time remaining under warranty.
