The Scots secured the trophy with a 4-3 victory over Mexico, who had qualified for the final for the first time. A team from Scotland were champions in 2007. Ally Dawson, the Scotland team manager, said: "What a wonderful result. The team has done themselves and Scotland proud and deserve every bit of credit they receive. "The team worked incredibly hard and have beaten the best teams in the world. The players are worthy winners." David Duke, the chief executive of Street Soccer Scotland, said: "The players went into the tournament determined to do Scotland proud and they have done exactly that. "There were teams that were technically better but Scotland's players showed a belief, spirit and heart that no other team could match and we are now the world champions. It is a brilliant feeling." The first Homeless World Cup first took place in Graz, Austria, in 2003. Mel Young, president and co-founder of the Homeless World Cup, said: "The Homeless World Cup exists to end homelessness. The_Munchmaster
Scotch whisky exports grew by over 20% in the first six months of the year, according to figures. Statistics released by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) show global shipments reached £1.8 billion between January and June this year, up from £1.47 billion in the same period of 2010. The USA remains the top export market by value, with shipments hitting £268 million, up from £233.7 million - an increase of around 14%. France, the second most valuable market, rose by 13% to £219.5 million. Emerging markets in Asia and South America also grew, with rises of 33% and 49% respectively. The statistics show Taiwan has now become a top-five market destination, with shipments growing to £70 million from £48 million. Shipments to Brazil rose by 56% to £44.8 million. SWA chief executive Gavin Hewitt said: "Scotch whisky producers can be proud of their continuing success. "Scotch whisky is a main driver for the UK and Scottish economies in building export markets. Recent breakthroughs in trade relations will help further. A free trade agreement with South Korea and better legal protection for Scotch whisky in India and Turkey give optimism for further growth." Scottish Secretary Michael Moore said: "A rise in the value of whisky shipped abroad by almost a fifth in the first half of the year is a very strong economic performance. It secures jobs in the sector and puts the industry in an excellent position for growth in the rest of 2011. "Growth of UK exports are critical to the country's economic recovery and I am proud that Scotland's iconic product continues to perform so strongly worldwide."
