gobbledonk
Things took a nosedive for Switzerland a few years back when the whole Nazi Gold thing came to a head, but I had been led to believe that they were a highly educated, worldly bunch. This might be more about the attitude of snooty shop assistants than the Swiss people, but it boggles the mind that anyone on planet earth could own a television and not know who Oprah Winfrey is: http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-23626340 Perhaps if she'd been wearing a hat with a Death's Head emblem on it, ya ? Sehr schlecht, bitch. Her claims, made to a US television programme, come amid a political row over plans by some Swiss towns to ban asylum seekers from some public places. The BBC's Imogen Foulkes in Berne says human rights groups have likened the plans - which include banning asylum seekers from swimming pools, playing fields and libraries - to apartheid. baa99
Well, did you see the left-handed apology of the shop owner? The store owner told the country's Blick newspaper there had been 'a misunderstanding' caused by the assistant’s failure to recognize Oprah but denied the snub was due to racism. She apologized for her assistant’s behavior, saying there had been 'a misunderstanding between her and Oprah'. 'I thought her English was not quite as good as that of Oprah,' she said. 'She only meant well' 'She said it just fine, did everything right. I can not blame the staff. I see no reason to dismiss [her]'. She has vowed to stand by the assistant and says she sees no reason to sack her following the incident. khunsanuk
Hi, What is ridiculous is that there are people who buy $35,000 bags. Shit, it is ridiculous such bags even exist. That is like 8 years pay for a lot of people in this country. For a bag! Sanuk!
Flashermac
Poor, poor Oprah ... maybe she really needed a new $35,000 handbag. She reminds me of this guy - Saudi prince sues Forbes for underestimating how many billions he really has http://www.thestar.c..._is_report.html "Winfrey was involved in another retail rebuff in Paris in 2005, when she was turned away from a Hermes boutique 15 minutes after closing time." http://news.yahoo.com/oprah-gets-swiss-apologies-racist-encounter-135717015.html
baa99
... but $35k to someone making $77000k in a year ain't much. That's about $38k per hour! So it takes her less than 1 hour to pay for the purse.
Flashermac
The entire world is suppose to recognise Oprah?
khunsanuk
Hi, The thing is nobody needs a $35K handbag. It is not 100 times better or useful than a $350 handbag. These things exist for one reason only, showing off. Sanuk!
Plainsdrifter
You mean she needs another 35K bag. She has to spend her money on something.
Coss
... but it boggles the mind that anyone on planet earth could own a television and not know who Oprah Winfrey is: I've been trying to forget what Oprah looks like, since, well, forever... The story is a reminder, that unlike the USA, the rest of the world is not eternally in an Oprah-coma*... (*Al Bundy, my hero)
gobbledonk
I'm with KS on the bag, but the fact is that the shop put the price tag on the bag - Oprah simply asked to see it. Perhaps even a billionaire wonders what the hell a bag can be made of to be worth that kind of money .....
