Technology: Connects Or Disconnects People?

With all the technology now available, especially in communications, have people became more connected to each other?

Perhaps, yes, connected to the distant ones or even to the strangers. Has that improved their lives?

Able to speak to someone not at hand, has allienated the populace from those next to them.

Japanese, one of the most avid nations when it comes to gadgets adopters.

Toyota City, 5, May 1956, when it had 45,000 people:

The same place, today, when it has 450 thousands people, tenfold. And hosts the world's biggest car manufacturer. Deserted:

Where are the people, the same kind of day (weekend)?

Back then, they had no fridges. The food had to be bought every day.

No supermarkets, no freezers.

They had no cars, had to walk or somehow get to the place where the food and action were (and are, today).

No phones, had to see people in person and talk.

Back then, they were reeling from the war defeat, still 7 years before the 1964. Tokyo Olympics to show off the Shinkansen (the bullet train), Sony, Toshiba, Toyota, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sharp, Nissan, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki... and many other world class brands.

Now, they have all that might be imagined, but no people to people interaction, in person.

"Information isn't about imparting knowledge anymore. The Internet changed all that.

Welcome to world of self aggrandizing shorthand. Keep strangers and people you hated in school up to speed with every mundane detail of your life 24/7. Welcome to the delusion of having an interesting life and friends."

Ironically - the quote (pointed right at facebook and twitter) was culled from a video game. :)

Face to face, people interact much less.

TV made a dent in the interaction, people glued to the boob-tube, little in the

way of conversation...

Now, people glued to their hand phone, texting, Facebook, etc.

I see many younger people that have lost/are losing the face to face communication skills :dunno:

Why should I waste time on a crap 'net photo

[Removed - KS]

The photo is from the studio in the scond pic, father of the owner took it and is available as a poster. The picture is from within the shop, not from the net.

The print of it can be seen in the streets, announcing "Koromo Festival" 19th of October.

Alfred Hitchchock called the TV akin to internal plumbing: "It has not changed people's habbits, just kept them inside".

That's the basis for the success of companies that have done nothing useful for the human kind other than letting them satiate their animal instincts for food, sex, porn, entertainment, "likes", without going out.

That explains partly there has not been an uptick in crime since 2008. Even decreased.

How comes? The usual culprits (unemployed) now jeerk off at home, Google gives them a false sense they know something, YouTube brings whatever they want to entertain themselves for free, FaceBook makes them feel "liked" and connected to something, Twitter makes them feel "followed" and of interest to anyone.
