In the vein of "History is written by the victor" we could also add in this "history of religion" context, "History is written by the aggrandiser". As I understand it, the New Testament was written by a bunch of guys in Greece(?) about 300 years after the fact. They tossed out/destroyed certain “books” or writings and emphasized others. There supposedly a gospel according to Mommy Mary and also Mary the ‘ho… interesting how it was probably 400+ years until the word really started to catch on about this young carpenter from some place most people NEVER heard of, the most illiterate and uneducated part of the world at that time…flash forward 1000-1200 years or so, the printing press/moveable type is invented by Gothenburg (sp?) and the first thing publish for distribution is the “holy” bible… What does part of this message say? “…be oppressed, it is ok as it is god’s plan for you, you will have better when you die, unless you kill yourself…”. Oddly, Jesus never wrote anything down himself, nowhere is there a “gospel according to Jesus” only the gospel “according to…” Odd also how JC looks European and not middle eastern or as depicted in the Bible… Odd also how if you go to Latin America and parts or Eastern Europe, JC and the “Madonna” do look a bit darker and more “Safartic.” (Sp)

I am not saying that Jesus or Yeshua didn’t exist it was a very common name at the time in the area, or that he wasn’t crucified, since crucifixion was a common form of execution at the time. So a man with a common name executed by a common method I can accept, what I can’t accept is all the unverifiable bullshit surround this character such as Virgin Birth, Son of God, Resurrection and you know the score. The reason why some bloke called Jesus who was crucified by the Roman’s didn’t write anything down since he couldn’t read and write and he wasn’t important. If he was the son of God, you would have at least expected that god would have given his the ability to read and write, and told him “Son, keep a Diary to stop arguments in 2,000 years time”
Coss
If I wanted to set up a set of rules and have people adopt them and said people were uneducated and quite stupid, I could do worse than say, see that chap over there, he doesn't have sore feet, because he is wearing sandals, and then persuade people to buy my sandals. I could also point out that he is nice and kind to people and stress free as a result and get folk to come along to a meeting where they could listen to me and my mates and maybe him, talk about this for a small donation on say, Sunday. That chap could a been anyone with a nice personality and an easy smile. Whilst I'm persuading people to give me a shekel or two to be part of my movement, the chap gets himself executed for, being too popular and getting up the nose of the incumbent power structure. Well everyone loves a Martyr so we can capitalise on this, remember all the miracles he did, oh you weren't there? No newspapers so you'll have to believe me, I'm trustworthy, after all me and my mates, are the ones that told you about the chap in the first place. There were probably many movements like this. In the life of Brian there's a scene where there are multiple blokes claiming to be the Messiah and effectively begging for coins and attention, sounds about right. ™
Mekong
And if having imaginary friends isn’t bad enough, some countries go to war over it.
Coss
I pleased to report that in NZ, the latest Census says that for the first time, people who have No Religion, are now a majority of 51.8%. The Pope'll be warming up the private jet, to whip down here, for a recruitment and fundraising visit.
