K.S,

Some of the regular Nana quiz team are interested in going along, we heard this from Rodney Bain last Tuesday as he is the quiz master from the Londoner quiz as well, thank's for letting others know also as we need some help to keep the numbers up, as there are so many quizes going on right now.

I hope Peter has thought about where he will put everyone that night. If he gets a full crowd of over 25 people the place will be packed. (Maybe even hire a few more servers for the night ???)

It should be an interesting Quiz, Quizmaster Bain is a really qood MC for the quizzes.

Cheers!

Hi,

"I hope Peter has thought about where he will put everyone that night."

I think so. He first mentioned this to me about 3 weeks ago, so they have been planning this for a while.

I agree though that Woodstock could get rather crowded.

Sanuk!

".....Rodney Bain....."

Another one!!?? That make's 4 a month he runs now (Londoner, British Club, Shenanigans Pattaya, Woodstock). Seeing as he charges 10,000 baht a time, it's a nice little sideline.

Now he just needs a day job as an English teacher or something and he'll be doing allright! laugh.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

As per usual it would seem that if there is a quiz in town NPF will put up a team or two.

Last night was the very first quiz night at Woodstock

At the start of proceedings it looked as if we were going to have a problem. The rule was for teams of 4 or lose 5 points for each additional team member.

Around the table were myself, Liverpool Jim, It's Me Dave, Pom Michael, Racha and as Racha had had a premonition that there would be a fair number of Thai questions at the last minute he brought along a local Thai specialist.

However there was no need to worry.

Pom Michael decided to visit the other attractions in the plaza instead of staying for the quiz and Liverpool Jim swiftly moved to another table - a team which turned out to be the eventual winners.

As Pom Michael did not stay noone took notes of the evening so my feeble memory will have to suffice.

Question master Rodney Bain, easily the best on the circuit.

4 rounds of questions with the RB mix - sport, music, general knowledge and the final 'connections' question(s).

Certainly I was not in the best of moods which i am sure the other team members could attest to (sorry guys) but I am not convinced that Woodstock is the ideal place to hold a quiz night.

Last night the sound was abysmal. Some of the music questions were impossible for teams situated at the far end of the room to hear, but it was difficult throughout to hear the questions clearly. Situation not helped by the fact that the pool tables/players are between some of the teams and the question master and that unlike say The Londoner with its multiple screens displaying the questions at Woodstock there is only the big screen behind the bar. There is also the obvious comings and goings throught the door.

With only 8 or so teams the place was crowded. I do not think that there could have had any more teams unles they ban pool and/or other activities for the night and insist that everyone participate in the quiz, which of course quite rightly will not happen.

The number of people present also contributed to the sauna like conditons of the place yesterday evening. Although i also understand that the airconditioning failed. The management were good enough to provide a free round of drinks to at least those tables most affected- nice gesture.

Due to other 'technical' problems the quiz was about an hour late in starting and at our table we had the feeling that the quiz was being rushed after that. Perhaps Rodney had another 'gig' last evening.

As to the quiz itself NPF finished in the middle of the pack. We were very inconsistent scoring 41 1/2 in one round and 14 1/2 in another.

Sorry we did not take down any of the questions for you to try.

Where is Pom Michael when you need him?

Entrance fee this time 200baht per person per team with this night only 100 baht going to charity.

1st prize for the event was a bit strange One nights free accomodation at some Thai resort or other (I thought i heard them say Bonanza).

2nd prize was a lot more interesting 1000baht voucher per team member at Woodstock ( We were aiming for 2nd)

All in all I still think some questions remain for future Woodstock quiz nights

It certainly is a plus to have Rodney Bain as the quizmaster and I hope that this was not a one off. The Woodstock venue imo would certainly require someone with a fairly forceful character to bring it off.

The sound levels , and not just for the music questions, will have to improve. I am sure that they will but at some point it will become an issue for non-quiz participants.

The air conditioning needs to work and I hope that this was only a problem for the one night only. It was very uncomfortable.

What will happen if more people show up. The design of the bar imo is not condusive to hosting quiz nights and the tourist season is fast approaching with more numbers arriving into the plaza in general.

At the Londoner if you just wish to have a drink there is the bar and the pool table and dart boards are to one side so no problem.

At the Dubliner and the Bulls Head the quiz is held on a separate floor.

At Woodstock the bar, pool tables and the entrance are right slap in the middle

However it was the first night the quiz was completed with basically no disputes cries of foul etc. They did attract a fair number of people and most seemed to leave resonably happy

and certainly it is easy to know where to go for post quiz celebrations

Whatever Woodstock decides to do I am sure that NPF will always be represented by a team or two
