'Robin Hoods' may get US amnesty

Washington (Agencies)

An important US Senate committee has approved a new law that would clear the way for US citizenship without even leaving the United States for millions of "Robin Hoods," as Thais refer to illegals in America.

The Judiciary Committee bill may be changed as it goes through procedures in the full Senate and House of Representatives. President George W. Bush has said he is against amnesty.

But the committee, after days of street demonstrations that stretched from California to the grounds of the US Capitol, the committee voted to strip out proposed criminal penalties for residents found to be in the United States illegally.

The vote is not final, but it cleared the way for the full Senate to begin debate tonight (Thailand time) on the emotional immigration issue.

"All Americans wanted fairness and they got it this evening," said Sen Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who played a pivotal role in drafting the legislation, approved 12-6.

Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, Republican, voted for the bill but signalled that some of the provisions could well be changed by the full Senate.

In general, the bill is designed to strengtehn border patrols, create new opportunities for so-called guest workers and determine the legal future of the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally.

Frankly, it pisses me off that they won't give a tourist visa to a Thai girl to visit me/us in the USA, for fear she won't return, but will give rewards to the guys who have already abused the system...and are staying illeagally...

Me too brother! And I am the commie/pinko/socialist in my group of friends, too.

They should be busting all the employers that hire illegals over locals. I know of plenty of homeless & working poor who would love to have those jobs and I have friends in carpentry skilled trades who have lost their jobs to illegal day laborers.

I have no issue with legal immigrants. Go there and do your thing. But I also think that the H1B visas should a) have no cap and B) rules made/enforced that make it painful to employers to hire these folks over a person already in the States legally since most employers hire them not because the offer special skills as intended by this visa, but because they can get them cheaper.

But I should not be amazed that the GOP are backing this because they take every chance to give corporate welfare via the 98% of Americans who work for a living. This admin in particular have done it time and again.

I am more disappointed in the spineless Dems who are being PC, not pragmatic nor decent to their own people.

Regards,

SD

One third of the prison system in California are illegals from Mexico.

Cost can be as high as $50,000 per year to keep one person locked up versus $6,000 per year spent per child on education.

Mexico will NOT take their illegals back to do time in Mexico.

I think what pissed off the Mexicans , whether leagal or not , was the influx of people from El Salvaldor , who got a free ride from the U.S. admin at the time of the cival war down there. Too lazy to google it , but I beleive 1 million out of a total population of 7 million got a free pass into the U.S. with an " agreement " that they would return when the shit was settled down there.

Well guess what , they stayed , now the Mexicans and El Salvador's hate each other. Deciding their future on U.S turf.... :banghead:

Fucking USA , always the king host for this kind of shit... :boxing:

I have to disagree with you there. there are exceptions for sure, but I think on average poor whites and blacks in the US rarely want the kinds of jobs that illegal mexicans usually work. though I think you have a point on the carpenter thing.

like most things, this isn't black and white, it's a very complex issue...but the reality is that if all illegal mexicans were rounded up and deported tomorrow, the economies of texas, arizona, and california would grind to a screeching halt.

force them ( mexicans) to stay in their country by really enforcing the border/

eventually they will get fed up withe their crapola corrupt gov and things will change: ( ever wonder where all the money from mexicos oil sales goes?)

I kind of wonder why they dont farm more in mexico, since they claim most come here to work at farm and other "tough" jobs.

Reality is that he illegal Mexicans etc that are here in the USA now are NOT going back to thir home countries ,

like it or not , thats the way it will be ,

So we need to start today to stop the next million , and the million after that are stopped at the border starting today.

Will the Goverment have the balls to do it ????
