Depends on what sort of person you are.

Captain Blackadder: I, on the other hand, am a fully rounded human being with a degree from the university of life, a diploma from the school of hard knocks, and three gold stars from the kindergarten of getting the shit kicked out of me. (none applys to me ::)

oh and on searching to find the above quote which i could remember bits and bobs of i found this, off topic...

Lieutenant George: The war started because of the vile Hun and his villainous empire-building.

Captain Blackadder: George, the British Empire at present covers a quarter of the globe, while the German Empire consists of a small sausage factory in Tanganyika. I hardly think that we can be entirely absolved of blame on the imperialistic front.

These days, if you so chose you can educate yourself by yourself to a higher level than you could by going to university.

Why? Information is more available now through the internet. YOu can find where to get all the resources you need. Also you can specialise more- if you know what you want to study-and do it at a faster pace.

Thats my excuse for dropping out of uni 3 times. However had a great time, and learnt alot more by myself.

UOL QBE is all well and good but not much use if you need a degree in the field of nuclear physics or whatever to work at sellafield power station, not going on the shortlist with that i'm afraid..... ::

i was educated in cambridge, note, not at !

The university I graduated from had to institute a written test in order to graduate. Liberal "open enrollment" policies.

It seems that some students were receiving degrees and they could not read and write. This is a well known public university. Not some mail order deal. These students paid tuition (or the state paid) and attended. Then, after receiving degree, these same students sued the university. Hmmm . . . but true.

I'm impressed with the number of post-grad degrees reported here. I think Elef in his usual penetrating way may make a good point about sex tourists needing the extra cash that generally comes with higher education. Mind you, the same must apply to a hard-core travellers. Ex-pats? I imagine they would have to have a bit of dough, too.

Like Old Hippie, I was a high school dropout who later went to university (at the tender age of 29 in my case).

I'm curious as to what guys actually majored in... In my case I got an undergrad degree in English Language and Literature.

I personally didn't learn anything at university other than how to write the essays the profs wanted to see and pass exams.

But the B.A. has been very useful on my resume. Credentialism. Now I work in IT. Go figure.

Well, I would say you do give a rats, because you would not have responded otherwise. Remember, this poll does not infer anything. It's just a poll. Thank you for responding.

For me, this poll has been quite enlightening. I was expecting to see a typical bell curve of sorts as more and more people made selections but that has not been the case.

I'm now curious how (or if) preferred destinations (BKK or PTY...etc) relate to education.
