Fidel
While I understand that the US is a vast country, with lots to do and see, I have no desire to visit whatsoever. Before 9/11 I had always wanted to do a road trip accross the country... see NYC, visit San Fran, take a trip to Vegas and maybe drive to Mexico or whatever. My impression from the media, from speaking to American friends and from interacting with people on boards like this, is that I would probably not enjoy visiting the US. America's trademark "freedom" appealed to me as a kid. Now I see people being disappeared, people chained and locked up in Guantanamo, fences being built to keep wet backs out, immigrants rounded up and put in camps, people being tasered for no reason, RFID chips, no-fly lists, mass arrests of protesters with no due process and so on... I think I'll wait a generation or so...
OCgringo
Fidel says ...... America's trademark "freedom" appealed to me as a kid. Now I see people being disappeared, ahh what ??? people chained and locked up in Guantanamo, OK , and what would you like us to do ? fences being built to keep wet backs out, immigrants rounded up and put in camps, CAMPS ???? people being tasered for no reason, well its better than being shot by the police, RFID chips, I assume you mean in passports , that is a stupid idea pushed by people that thought it would work, I doubt anything to sinister about it , they knew you could sheild the RDIF no-fly lists, yeah it gets some of the wrong people , but not me mass arrests of protesters with no due process ....again who are these people ???? Somehow you always try to make the USA look like a concentration camp I am sure you live in a paradise with butterflys and streets of gold, , please tell us where this place is Did an American kick sand in your face when you were a kid , you sure seem to have a chip on your shoulder over the USA OC
Fidel
Gringo, I was just explaining why vositing America no longer appeals to me. No American ever kicked sand in my face. And, yes, they have camps for immigrants in the US. I can post a link to the news stories if you like. Children playing behind barbed wire and all that. The mass arrests without due process I was referring to took place during the GOP National Conference in 2004. 1,200 people were rounded up and detained at a facility surrounded by razor wire at Pier 57, without due process, for no reason other than that they were practicing their democratic right to protest. http://www.thememoryhole.org/policestate/pier57/ As I said in my post, all my info about the US is second hand. Never been there myself. Maybe I'd like it, but I have no interest in visiting right now. That's all. Another poster had advised people to go elsewhere earlier. Just voicing my opinion and explaining why visiting the US doesn't appeal to me.

Flashermac
Is Los Angeles Airport still in the United States? Nobody there seems to speak much English ...
Flashermac
I keep reading about spy cameras in the UK, taxes on parking in front of your own home, people being gunned down point blank by cops on the underground, thugs attacking people just walking to the pub, gangs shooting people in London, mad bombers blowing up bus loads of people, national ID cards as in fascist/communist countries, an unpopular leader taking the country into an unpopular war, crazy Muslims trying to kidnap a soldier so they can saw his head off ... Wonder if I should ever visit England again.
Old Hippie
I alwatys wanted to see a soccer game...maybe Liver pool or Man U...but after seeing all the hooliganism, I think I'll pass...then again, If Phil will guarantee my safety, and Lusty lets me view his porn collection, I will come! Fidel... See most of your point, except "...fences being built to keep wet backs out..." We actually do need this...in fact, I suggest we used land mines as well, we do have a real legitimate probl;em here with illeagals bogging down the system in some parts...not PC to say it, but it is true, and very few people outside of these areas can really appreciate just how bad it has gotton. And I wish you would visit SFO, you are welcome, and I will give you the $1 tour! Lots to see here, and please, realize (as I am sure you do) The USA Government, is not the USA... Fidel
Hi OH, Thanks for the offer. My girlfriend is a big fan of the US, having visited NYC and LA last September. I'm sure she'll want to go back again... Maybe, just maybe, I'll take you up on the offer. Cheers!

The_Munchmaster
Here's an idea. Don't go to the USA! Been there once and don't expect I'll be going back again. Plenty better places in the world. Just curious where you went that gave you that impression. "Better" interms of what? Chicago in February.
