zzzz
There was a Wolfgan Ullrich case a while back where there was Interpol involvement. But wrt your statements on Interpol, I don't think you know enough. Any proof?
bust
And Gaddie and others laughed at me when I said I *knew* the MiB looked at these boards... Cheers, SD That's a given Tiger...happens everywhere. I know of a guy who got busted importing a large quantity of oke doke to Australia. I girl I know and her partner were questioned over it. They both belong to a 12 step program as did the guy arrested. During their interview the Police made comments about the ?A meetings they attended and it became quiet obvious that members of the unit the cops belonged to had been sitting in these same meetings for years. I think like many anonymous communities whether they are like a 12 step fellowship or a community board they are in most cases kept under close watch, especially given LOS and the sex industry. Famous Grouse
Yes there was Wolgang Ulrich and before that the German who used to run the Baby A go gos in Pattaya. Recently there was the US pony tailed robber. There have been many Germans/Americans/Scandinavians sent back etc. Their officers here are the most pro-active.(Wolfgang had taken on Chalerm btw so his days were numbered anyway). I think you misunderstand what I am saying and what the public conception of Interpol is. It is very much a bureaucratic organisation - an international chain of command through which foreigners can be arrested. I can remember a TV series of the same name, when kids could buy Interpol kits which gave a badge a gun and a pair of handcuffs! Some countries are more successful than others in making arrests in Thailand. Some countries have different laws. The Germans can withdraw a passport at any time which makes extradition automatic. But in essence investigations in Thailand are either done by visiting foreign police, or local police liaison officers all of whom are members of FRANC - Foreign Anti-Narcotics Committe. British police liaison officers have traditionally been officers from Customs drugs teams - though there was for a short tragic period a National Crime Squad officer. Now the local man is Serious Organised Crime Agency, which is a mix of MI6/Customs/and Police. SOCA does not chase lone villains. Actually there is argument back in the UK as to what actually SOCA does. Do I have any proof? Absolutely not!
YimSiam
Interpol is pretty much an information clearing house, but also does some training and support services -- big name, but not much action to it. They share red notices, but this is just passing on requests by various jurisdictions to arrest and extradite suspected or absconding criminals, they don't have some elite corps of black helicopter types ready to go bust the bad guys - they barely have enough money for monogrammed t-shirts, let alone the vintage Hawaiian shirts favoured by the type of guys who actually track people down and bring them in... Interpol's regional office is in Thailand, but so is everyone else in international organisations. I would expect many weekends are spent "pursuing leads" down in Pattaya... The red notices are online, there are some interesting ones, but mostly just run of the mill serious criminals.
frede
Why not contact someone at the UK Embassy? Or have a Thai to inform Pattaya Immigration? Finally the labour department? Extortion maybe one of the jobs that is limited to Thais? :smirk: Definately a restricted trade. Manchester Dave' date=' PT me if you / your friend needs assistance, Police Colonel Itipon (Chief of Pattaya Immigration) is one of my close Thai contacts and I know he detests activities such as this. [/quote'] Why would you want to use your Itipon for a total stranger? Indeed why would you want to dirty the relationship, surely, you need your own get outta jail free cards in tact? Sounds as fishy as your 500 quid a key story
torrenova
What a croc of shit. Sorry but in years of operating bars from the top to the bottom of Pattaya and having known hundreds of bar owners over the years including in Soi Buakhow I have never come across any case remotely similar to this. The nearest I could think would be if the guy coming round was the previous owner and is jealous. Otherwise, I really cannot bellieve the story. Max
So I was not the only one who thought the initial story was more intriguing in what it left out than what manchester_dave was willing to tell us about his totally computer illiterate friend and his Thai wife. The news clips are obviously a nice coloring but may as well have nothing to do with the visit of the British "gentleman" (why did you call him gentlemen in the initial post? If he did what you said, he's an asshole). Either the story is completely distorted or it actually involves a cast of morons on all ends... Coss
Oooo'er' date=' another dangerous in Pattya thread, that's good it'll keep the proletariat away for my visit next month. [/quote'] Herein I retract the quoted comments, I had thought this was a troll as I don't know of the OP. One hopes it all works out for the best. I retract my retraction, my initial gut reaction has re-asserted it self and no amount of Guinness will quieten it. Troll or nay, the only thing lacking in this story apart from credibility is a dwarf, a circus lion and a small piece of belly button fluff coloured green instead of the usual blue. wonderlust
So let us in on the big secret then, or at least hint at it. I take it the tale of the bar owner with no idea how to provide security for himself, his wife or his bar and no idea how to use the internet is completely true. If so it's a weird story and a lesson in folly. Mr Big sounds like some prick who ran out of money and thought he'd try his hand at extortion instead of selling viagra, teaching English or begging outside train stations like all the other drop-outs.
