It seems we just lack a national will to protect the border.

No this is why.

youngfarang, that is old news.

If a cop did that shit, he would be going to prison.

When one border agent took from a drug traffikers tuck some bales of pot and put it in his truck, he got busted. He was filmed by a camera in a Highway Patrolman's car. Would you believe some people thought the government was too hard on the Border Patrol Agent by arresting him?

Liberals voice concerns about Obama

Liberals are growing increasingly nervous â?? and some just flat-out angry â?? that President-elect Barack Obama seems to be stiffing them on Cabinet jobs and policy choices.

Obama has reversed pledges to immediately repeal tax cuts for the wealthy and take on Big Oil. Heâ??s hedged his call for a quick drawdown in Iraq. And heâ??s stocking his White House with anything but stalwarts of the left.

Now some are shedding a reluctance to puncture the liberal euphoria at being rid of President George W. Bush to say, in effect, that the new boss looks like the old boss.

â??He has confirmed what our suspicions were by surrounding himself with a centrist to right cabinet. But we do hope that before it's all over we can get at least one authentic progressive appointment,â? said Tim Carpenter, national director of the Progressive Democrats of America.

OpenLeft blogger Chris Bowers went so far as to issue this plaintive plea: â??Isn't there ever a point when we can get an actual Democratic administration?â?Â

Even supporters make clear theyâ??re on the lookout for backsliding. â??Thereâ??s a concern that he keep his basic promises and people are going to watch him,â? said Roger Hickey, a co-founder of Campaign for Americaâ??s Future.

Obama insists he hasnâ??t abandoned the goals that made him feel to some like a liberal savior. But the leftâ??s bill of particulars against Obama is long, and growing.

Obama drew rousing applause at campaign events when he vowed to tax the windfall profits of oil companies. As president-elect, Obama says he wonâ??t enact the tax.

Obamaâ??s pledge to repeal the Bush tax cuts and redistribute that money to the middle class made him a hero among Democrats who said the cuts favored the wealthy. But now heâ??s struck a more cautious stance on rolling back tax cuts for people making over $250,000 a year, signaling heâ??ll merely let them expire as scheduled at the end of 2010.

. . .

I gotta say that I've been surprised at his appointments and the advisors he's been bringing onboard. Nothing like I had anticipated.

Hey HH' date='

Surprised in a good way or bad way? [/quote']

Steve...surprised that Noam Chomsky hasn't yet been named to a position of import. :) In that respect, pleasantly surprised. Overall, I haven't got my panties in a twist over any of his appointments. That Wesley Clark hasn't been named as Secretary of Defense is also a pleasant surprise. Of course, Clark Clifford may end up as Ambassador to the U.N. 555555555555

I'm waiting to see how his nominations for the U.S. Supreme Court go. I suspect that he will cause the lefties who are bitching now celebrate in the streets when those are made (those most will have a tough time getting confirmed).

Shows the difference when we actually have a smart guy making these decisions.

A poll out today shows 84% of Americans believe Obama is doing a good job with the transition...(they apparantly asked Roguyam 16 times)

Not bad, especially considering that it's nearly impossible to get 84% of Americans to agree about anything.

An alternative explanation is that Obama is doing no better a job with his transition than GWB did but that unlike leftists, conservatives are able to judge their opponents fairly, are willing to give a new President a chance, and respond to such polls honestly rather than cynically.

For a transition to be smoothly achieved takes the participation/cooperation of BOTH the out-going and in-coming parties. So don't be too quick to pat Obama's team on the back so much. Credit must also be given to the incumbent personnel.

84% on a transition is different than 84% on performance in office. No doubt Barry will enjoy high performance ratings early-on while in office, but there is usually a honeymoon period that gives the President some comfort until things settle back into the usual partisan way of doing business or the shit hits the fan in some way and people expect super-human response from the Oval Office and don't get it.

BTW, do you expect that GWB's team will vandalize offices, fuck up computers/computer systems, and scramble office files to mess with their replacements (as Klinton's sore-losers did)?

Does anyone expect the Bushes to purloin White House furniture the way the Clintons did?

He's already raped the country (unlike Clinton), so why bother.
