I'm a Alcholic and I admit it

May God watch over you.

The first step is recognition.

I did my share as a youth. But never really got into imbibing too much as an adult. Now I don't use any. I still have a LEO and a 333 cans in fridge from 2 trips ago to SE Asia. Both cans are probably past their 'use by' date.

I only imbibe in LOS and there only a Heinekin or 3 at tops and I rarely drink that. All that stuff gives me a headache anyway. I mostly drink Cola at bars and such wilst in LOS on holiday. And, I do have a darn good time each trip.

Believe it or not, one can have a good time without alcohol. Even in Thailand.

I do have a couple/few mates that do go to AA. They swear by the program/people/meetings. In fact, all state they have encountered new friends. AA is not for everyone. But those I know who do get involved are better off for it.

I did attend an AA meeting long time ago. The meeting was part of a night class I was taking - Substance Abuse. If anyone reading posts here - an AA meeting is a real eye opener. It truely is amazing what this stuff can do to good decent people - and their friends and family.

Me, I got these dang cigs that I must stop. For those that smoke - you do know what addiction is and how difficult it is to stop.

Best of luck. And just stating above may help others.

From what I know, you replace alcohol with something else. This is just my personal experience and observations. The rehab and AA most likely have a better idea, but I expect you do whatever works for you. For sure, no alcohol in your diet is NOT the end of the world but more likely the beginning of another era.

Interesting thing is, when I posted I had a drinking problem years back, it actually helped. Guys on this board are supportive, especially in person. Good bunch here.

As I have said before, I feel very close to strangers here I never met, than I do to some of my family...or what passes for my family.

t takes a real man to know when he needs help.

Good luck, Mekong! As one that ocassionally drank too much, but went months without toucing a drop, it helped to marry someone that never had drank. Now, if I could just get rid of the urge to hit the casinos in Kansas City, I'd be a near perfect husband (he says tongue in cheek).
