Flashermac
There were serious proposals to divide California in the 19th century. That was when 3/4ths of the populations was north of SLO and the south felt it was being neglected. Nowadays, it's more likely the north that wants to divide the state. rogueyam
I'd like to see California divided in two, a coastal state from Sonoma Co. (north of Marin) down to L.A. Co. The second state would surround the first, including the northernmost and southernmost coastal counties and every non-coastal and non-S.F. Bay Area county. Additionally we should redraw the Washington and Oregon state lines so that there are still two states, just side by side instead of above and below each other. Make the divide along the Cascades from Canada to California. This would give sanity a chance to return to West Coast politics.
Mike Goodtime
You should check out Sylvia Browne's predictions. I listened to one of her books and she says the next president (Obama in this case) will be assassinated given he declares war on North Korea. I can't help but notice you want to keep the best wine and weed to yourself. Give us Sonoma and Humboldt, then we'll talk.

I'll do asearch for the links, but years back, the idea was to divide Northern California into 2 states, the proposal was going to go before the Congress, but was halted when WWII broke out. The new state was going to be called "Jefferson." Wow, I actually remembered something from my public schooling! Try this in the mean time... http://www.jeffersonstate.com/
Flashermac
Hmmm .. hadn't heard about that one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_State Jefferson was also the name of the proposed state set up in Denver during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush of 1859-60. However, Washington ignored the locals, named it Colorado and sent out their own governor. p.s. Most bizarre decision was Congress naming a western state after a valley in Pennsylvania, just because a Congressman like a poem about it. << The name Wyoming derives from the Munsee name xwé:wamÉ?nk, meaning "at the big river flat," originally applied to the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, made famous by the 1809 poem 'Gertrude of Wyoming' by Thomas Campbell. >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming
