cavanami
I have TurboTax 2008 Premier and it has Form 2555.
..
I finally figured it out. In previous years it was all automatic if you ticked the foreign income box. In this year's model, you need to go back again an tell it again that this is foreign income. Very clunky. Cheers, SD
Pom Michael
Is is a application or a web-based program?
buddha
The free versions are engineered to be clunky. They are hoping that you become frustrated and decide to upgrade to the paid version. Make sure that you are not in a hurry when using a free version. Block out some time to deal with the frustrations of this specific 'usability' issue. Think of it as one gigantic purchase path engineered in an attempt to get you to add value added services. Do not wait until the last day before tax time to attempt to use a free tool.
ThaiHome
I used TaxAct last year for the first time. I paid something like 10 bucks for the licensed version. Worked well, though it did struggle with the foreign tax credits for the Alternate Minimum Tax (AMT). Ended up having to override a couple of values, but it did work. zzzz
I wouldn't use it -- the US Treasury Secretary was in deep shit because he claimed to have used Turbo Tax, which caused him to not pay all of his taxes. This was big news recently when he was trying to get confirmed by Congress.

ThaiHome
Apparently he did use TurboTax, but suspicion is he intentionally input incorrect numbers or correct numbers in the wrong place in order to not have to pay the self employment part of the FICA contribution. This is probably a very common â??mistakeâ? by people working overseas for a non â??FICA company, where no payroll taxes (FICA or FIT) of any kind are withheld.
