Theoretically, our airports are under the protection of the Australian Federal Police, but it was the NSW cops who actually turned up and started arresting people - the NSW Minister for Cops has insisted that he will get a full report, with a view to ensuring that this doesnt happen again. As his interviewer said this morning, what would the outcome have been if the attackers had been terrorists instead of crazed bikies ? Sadly for the rest of us, I fully expect that we will have a return to the Police State mentality at our airports for the next few months. They are brilliant at over-reacting *after* the horse has bolted, somewhat akin to the TNI being posted outside hotels in Jakarta after the Marriott bombing. So - I can't carry a bottle of after shave on a plane but people can take over Swampi/Sydney what airport next? Lucky in both cases neither group wanted to kill thousands - but think about it - if 20 bikies can do this - imagine what 20 terrorists can do if they wanted to?
