American Fiction [2023]

A novelist fed up with the establishment profiting from Black entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of the hypocrisy and madness he claims to disdain. Clever American biting drama comedy that is more poignant on home soil, the main satirical premise and fun part is cancelled somewhat by the serious background family drama. Up for awards so worth a look.

He's an absolute CUNT

Investigative journalist Anthony Baxter travels between the US Presidential race and the Scottish countryside to chronicle the troubling confrontation between Donald Trump and a feisty 92-year-old widow, Molly Forbes, as she refuses to make way for his golf course. This shocking insight to a David and goliath battle is a remarkable document of the disconnect between political rhetoric and the lives of ordinary people.

Miller's Girl [2024]

A creative writing assignment yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student. Mediocre attempt by Freeman on his foray into the USA movie scene, this story is beyond pretentious despite two decent performances.

Bleeding Love [2023]

A father takes his estranged daughter on a road trip in an effort to get her into rehab. Along the way they meet all types of strangers, as their strained relationship is put to the test and confuses matters. Average road trip movie meanders all over the place despite immersing us into images of rural America, the whole premise reeks of a true life father/daughter vanity project.

One Life [2023]

The true story of Sir Nicholas Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to World War II, rescued over 660 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in the operation known as Kindertransport. What starts off as a run of the mill war film ends in the TV studios of That’s Life when the story took on a new life. Strong performances makes this very watchable.

Spoiler Alert

The British Schindler

I remember that circa 1988 if not mistaken, one week Ester Ranrzen broke the story, the following week Winton was a guest in the studio audience. At the end of the show Rantzen asked if anyone in the audience had neeen saved by or was a descendent of anyone saved by Winton and the whole audience stood up

I’m going to put this movie on my list to watch. I am shocked at the support this sham artist gets. He had a similar battle in Atlantic City and had to build around an old woman’s house. She refused to move, he sued, lost and despite being offered insane amounts of money, she stayed…to think I shook hands with this asshole when he was just an obnoxious casino owner…

On the flight over to Bangkok, I watched the film “Dumb Money.” An interesting film with a new style of narration, about the Game Stop Stock market scandal. It showed how the market is basically manipulated/controlled by a group of very greedy hedge fund managers who all bet if a business will succeed or fail, all at their whim and will.

Not seen that, but in a similar vein there was the Netflix mini series called “Eat the Rich” pretty weak IMHO, didn’t really touch in Short Selling which was the basis behind the sting. That said good to see a bunch of nerds give it to the man.

All Gill and the others did, was the same thing all the insiders had been doing for years, and “the Man” hated it and did everything in their power to stop the “outsiders” from playing their game. The really sad thing is, a few very elite people can make or break a company and get rich in the process of destroying someone else. This practice really needs to stop.
