gobbledonk
STH, I thought one of the attractions of living in an 'emerging country' was that you *didn't* have to live like Aussies and Kiwis in London ??
Bangkoktraveler
A friend of mine lives there in a room/small shack. He's a farang, I visited him a week ago, he has I presume lost his phone. If I get to the area, I should be able to get my bearings, he lives near/ at the back of a small market, there is a 7/11 and gold shop nearby. To give you an idea, he pays 500 baht a month for the room. STH What does your friend spend the rest of his money on?

khunsanuk
Hi, "there is a 7/11 and gold shop nearby" That just described 80% of Bangkok Sanuk!
ThaiHome
Only 80%? I think it describes just about every street I have seen in Bangkok. TH
Khun_Kong
The room you describe sounds exactly like where I took a ST girl from Beer Garden some years back. It is just before the corner of Suk Soi 4 and Petchaburi, on the left hand side as you walk up from Suk. About 2x3 meters, communal toilet outside, plywood "door" and a plywood floor. She had some cheap posters covering the walls, a scrap of linoleum flooring and some raggedy old blanket on the floor. It was the most absolutely crap ST room I've ever used, bar none, including in Malaysia, Cambodia and Pattaya Soi 6. Note to SLH: Yes, she would have taken it up the shitter, if I'd asked.
