Wallenda
Just came across this one: http://www.pattaya-live.com/index.php?showtopic=8005 I wonder -- what was the nightlife scene there like prior to the late 60s? Assume it was mainly for-Thais. Also, where was the original Thermae?

Gadfly
I am reading Chris Baker's and Prof. Pasuk's History of Thailand, 2nd Ed., and very early on you see references to p4p. It's certainly not anything recent.
Faustian
But....but....but......I thought it was all the fault of the dirty old men farang............
Old Hippie
Allegedly, Patpong sprouted up as an entertainment area for farang airline crews, and then morphed even more with the Vietnam war. Thai P4P has always been around.
Flashermac
KS had a nice history of the nightlife on the Nanaplaza site. It's still down at the moment. Read Jorges Orjibet's accounts, if you want to know about the pre-VN War days nightlife. Orgibet came here at the end of WWII in 1945. The nightlife was quite lively back then. Orgibet was even part owner of a nightclub in the late '40s or early '50s. Also, read Jack Reynolds' novel "Woman of Bangkok" - about a Farang who gets taken to the cleaners by a pro in the 1950s. Same same but different. But this was all Bangkok. I've never seen anything on early Pattaya. It was apparently a pretty ordinary beach resort back then. No doubt had the usual brothels. khunsanuk
Hi, "KS had a nice history of the nightlife on the Nanaplaza site." It's in the Articles forum: http://www.thai360.com/fbb/showtopic.php?tid/518396/ Edit: Just followed the link, it's a 100% copy of my article. Without the credits Sanuk! Wallenda
Uh oh. Guess what. As I was reading your linked article, it struck me as remarkably familiar. Turns out the story on the other forum that I linked to here (OP) was the exact same story. Word for word. They must have copied and pasted it. khunsanuk
Hi, Not the first time something like that happened I wouldn't mind that much if they at least had the courtesy to give me credit for it and/or provide a link to the article here.
