The woman who was apparently really drunk was chatting to the taxi-driver, identified as Chokchai Sompong, as they drove towards her home." Some friends she has there. She is obviously drunk, and no one offers to get her home safely? They just let her go off alone with a strange male taxi driver while she is inebriated to the point of the obvious? The thing is, many Thai men think white women/farang women are easy sluts (a bit ironic considering their country is filled with prostitution on every level of the spectrum). And here she is drunk, chatting away with him, maybe even being sexy and flirtatious (she is 27, he is 21). When will these people realize they are not in their home country and behave accordingly to protect themselves from these crimes of opportunity, opportunity these 'victims' supply themselves to weak men here. Women alone in Thailand are a target for rape. It happens all the time here. It is a huge problem for Thai and farang women alike. I'm surprised they let her live to identify them. Ask any Thai woman you know if she would do the same after a night out with friends drinking - alone in a taxi with a Thai man driving. Hell, many Thai women are afraid to go in a taxi alone in Bangkok during the daylight hours. This isn't the west where these problems are less (though still do occur at times). Rape is a huge problem here in Thailand. Most women here try to avoid placing themselves in these sort of situations where it can easily happen to them. Sanuk! In the Thai media they reported that the girl was 31 and the taxi driver driver 26. They also said she was drunk and falling in and out of sleep in the taxi before the attack happened.
