Old Hippie
As I understand, Militias are wide spread and increasing in the USA - and since Obama became president weapon sales exploded. And as you know Assault Weapons are completely legal in the USA... I never held a real weapon in my hand, but I presume that an AK-47 is not the best weapon to defend your home (the leading argument why US citizens need to be able to own/carry a gun.) :content: Only in certain parts of the country are they legal. Bush 1 signed the imported assault weapons ban when he was in office...and California and many other states have greatly banned or restricted what you can own. Criminals, or nut jobs like this may or may not have bought their weapons legally and then converted them illegally, I don't know. But for the serious military shit, no, that is NOT available on the open market.
Bangkoktraveler
Please lets not have a gun debate. Lets just agree to blame it on religion. :content: Religion and guns sometimes play a major role. Some of the secretest of Societies use religion and guns as a major tool. Just try imagine a militia with kitchen knifes. :content: People do not realize it but if a person has the right machinery, they can make their own guns, ammo, etc.
Bangkoktraveler
Surely, no one believes these loonies purchased their weapons legally! One doesn't just walk into a 7-Eleven and buy military weapons. But you would be amazed at what can be found on the black market. No amount of laws are going to stop that. p.s. Some Japanese religious nutters tried their best with Sarin gas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarin_gas_attack_on_the_Tokyo_subway I walked into one gun store recently and was surprised they had 4-5 fully operational military machine guns. The first one was a 50 caliber! For the store to have them means somebody is buying them. I wonder what for?

It is common to see people carrying away at the gun show boxes of ammo consisting of 1000 rounds per box. There is a good chance that the law may change here so people can carry guns concealed without a permit. We can carry out in the open without a permit. SpiceMan
... 50 caliber! I don't know anything about guns so forgive me for asking. Does that mean the radial diameter of the bullets is 0.5 inches i.e. 12.7mm?
kamui
Guns and God. A volatile mix. “It started out as a Christian thing," Donna Stone told reporters at the preliminary court hearing Monday morning. "You go to church. You pray. You take care of your family. I think David started to take it a little too far. He dragged a lot of people with him. When he got carried away, when he went from handguns to big guns, I was done." http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100329/ts_csm/291267 An interesting article on militias: The New Army of Hate "The Hatriots are on the rise: Paramilitary militias tripledâ€â€from 42 to 127â€â€in the first year of the Obama administration, as detailed by the Southern Poverty Law Center." chuckwoww
Yes interesting. The comments say a lot too. So much anger. I don't think the US has been so politically polarized since the Civil war. Question is will it pass or will it morph into something more serious.
