Hugh_Hoy
Robaus...you'll find plenty of Americans who would argue with you about Obama "defending" our Constitution. For openers, he is on record for changing it/the principals upon which it was authored through what he terms a "living" Constitution. Just as an example is his insistence that ALL Americans must carry health insurance. NO PLACE in our Constitution is this authority given to Congress or the Presidency. Accordingly, when the U.S. Supreme Ct. rules it "unconstitutional", health care in the U.S. as Obama wants it will be torpedoed. And it will be his own fault and that of his kool-aide-drinking followers that this will happen. Protesters of the mosque being planned for the "ground zero" area are not specifically targeting the provisions of freedom of religion. Interesting to note that A.H. Obama side-stepped reporters requests to comment on "why" the Muslim organization would continue to insult some Americans by continuing it's plan to establish a mosque in the area in question. (A lot of stuff has come out on this that might not have made some of the reports you have read.) This is just another example of this idiot coming down on the wrong side of shit that has nothing to do with the Federal government; strictly a local issue. Old Hippie
"...Obama is President only because he is half black. Had he been all black or all white, Hillary would’ve kicked his ass. He was elected on the basis of two things (neither of which was eminent experience): too many voters voting against what occurred under GWB and “white guiltâ€Â. I guess you can add to that Obama’s mastery of the teleprompter and conservative indifference regarding his opponent McCain)..." Obama is president because he got elected. Now it is true he might have firsrt been nominated because people preferred him to Hilary, or it could be because a lot of rebubs, at the behest of Rush and Glenn etc..., all went and registered democrate to nominate him figuring he was to black to win...he obviously was not. Sad fact is, the repubs, under GWB really fucked things up, the full effects are still unknown. McCain lost in part because of his association with the repubs, but more so because of his decision to have that idiot Palin on the ticket. He might have had a chance had he made a wiser choice...being black had little if anything to do with Obama being elected, a dead turtle would have won against Palin. Obama may well "fail" but it will be in part to the repubs stonewalling every damned thing he tries to do.

USVirgin
BTW, there's also a strip club "New York Dolls" 2 blocks from Ground Zero... anyone complaining about that profaning the hallowed ground? No, the New York Dolls own that town. They can do pretty much whatever they want. _Y8-CBXfzhE

Obama next time around if he continues on the same path in the same manner as he has the last 18 months. Look...you may percieve that the "repubs" drove the school bus into a ditch, but, IMO A.H. Obama has taken the wheel and is intent on driving the bus right over a cliff. I applaud those who try to puncture the tires on the bus before he can achieve that goal. Blame GWB et. al. all you want for what took place during his 8 years of presidency, but what's going on right now is expotentially horrendous. expat
Have you ever heard a Republican say, "We were wrong about the Iraq thing", or some such? I haven't. Amen. Then they go on the attack about ludicrous things like mosques and vacations. Idiocy.
Bangkoktraveler
If the mosque gets built in Manhattan, I wonder what board member will show up with his sheet over his head and place a burning cross in the front yard?
unit731
Here is the First Amendment to the US Constitution, for them what likes to cite it repeatedly. Notice it says "prohibiting free exercise" of a religion. And it refers to laws and the Congress. It does not guarantee everyone the right to build a religious edifice anywhere they choose (e.g. overlooking the site of the former Twin Towers). Well . . . yes it does. Come on now. This is a stretch. If the application meets local zoning and building codes then that's it. And note that there has been a mosque in the area since BEFORE nine/eleven. Gotta love those Teabaggers and Fox News to get all these pseudo patriots riled up.
