Boo Radley
Saw this video on another forum showing footage of the Russian navy dealing with suspected Somali pirates in a more robust way and sinking their ship. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YigXC7hBxw&NR=
cavanami
Everytime we sailed thru pirate areas we had the ship rigged with the fire hoses, to blast the pirates right back into the water! All lights on and armed, roaming patrols with side arms...50 cal machine guns at the ready...surprise, surprise, never had a problem!
ThaiHome
How Thai is that? "Yee-haw! We failed at our mission. Let's have a party anyway!" The mission was not to rescue the Thai flagged ship that was hijacked just 3 weeks ago nor to even specifically escort Thai flagged ships in the area. The mission was to participate in the multi national patrol of the area which the two navy ships have been doing for some 4 months going back to Sept last year. cavanami
The ships should learn by the way the US settlers did it in the 1800's...have a convoy of ships, a few with guns for protection. Strength in numbers!
Flashermac
Settlers did that when the settled the West? Bet those warships frightened off the Injuns.

You saying this is a “MASSIVE FAIL†is entirely incorrect. The task force as been very effective in preventing attacks but due to the size of the area the pirates operate in and the unwillingness of shipping companies to participate in convoys (due to cost considerations) until the root cause of the attacks is addressed, they will continue. Current fleet of vessels in operation TH
Nervous God
As a kid we had a family friend who was a ship's captain. Roberts was his name, great bloke, once coming into a dry dock they yelled out the water level wasn't high enough yet, "Well piss in it then because your too late letting me to stop now" Boats don't stop easy! However, in the late 40's he was based around Hong Kong, boats regularly pirated. The thing then was to cut off one of the first mates fingers and send it to the company office with a ransom note. People forget just how big oceans are and how easy it is too hide.

There for the captured crews it doesn't matter at all, if Thai ships are in international waters or not.
LizardKing
So TH & Kamui, you guys advocate just letting the pirates do what they want, fund the terrorists groups in their country at all of our expense (we pay for it by increased prices of goods) and ignore it because it is "too hard?" Really? WTF? PS -- Kamui, ask any US SPECOPS guys if they feel that way. Be prepared for a tongue-lashing at best, a beat-down at worst!
