Mekong - don't see where you have any reason to jump on this one at all.

I probably know a little bit more about Nuclear than most BM's having commissioned 2 NPS and Engineered the safety systems on a third.

But what do I know?

The undisputed fact is radiation has been leaking from the plants. Add to that plant operators have been deliberately releasing radioactive steam to reduce pressure and you will probably find the full effects will not be known for quiet a while.

The undisputed fact is that Bust is speaking out of his arse and has no idea about Nuclear.

FACT

Are you saying what he said in that quote is wrong?

I don't think that there is any questions that there are issues, it is the degree of the issues. Is what happened, as bad as some media and interest groups are making out. Yes there has been radioactive gas releases, but what is the seriousness of this release. Will it actually incur any serious problems?

This is in line with another thread about donating to charities. Green Peace lives of fears and guilt, whilst it does do some good things, IMO, most of there stuff is politically motivated, and as is the case of most large charities, they live quite handsomely of the donations of others whilst still paying most of their work force bananas and peanuts (has anyone actually seen the wages some of these institutions give to local workers, as opposed to their own?).

So, iodine in the water, radioactive release, whilst not desirable, is it really that bad

Marsha Evans did okay for herself financially heading up the Red Cross in 2005 and, like her predecessor Healy, did even better when she left under sharp criticism after a major disaster.

Evans' salary at the Red Cross was $651,957 for the fiscal year ending June 2003, and $468,599 salary the following year.

<< According to the Salvation Army, Commissioners W. Todd Bassett and his wife Carol A. Bassett jointly received basic living allowances and grants totaling $64,210 for 2004 plus housing valued at $34,116. That is still considerably less than the salaries of some of the other top charities.

Marsha J. Evans, the president of the American Red Cross, was paid $651,957 in 2004. The president of the United Way is now Ralph Dickerson Jr. who's current salary is $420,000 per year, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

UNICEF C.E.O. and President Caryl M. Stern earned $478,645 in 2009 according to a Better Business Bureau report. The Better Business Bureau also said that Brian Gallagher, CEO of The United Way earns $1,037,410 in 2008. >>
