Wallenda
Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson in "The Jeffersons" died at the age of 74 http://us.mg205.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2_0_0_1_2525209_AMXVimIAAK3xUA8pzAaJsFagcuk&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 He was in the first play I ever saw, a musical called Purlie, this a few years before he became famous on tv as George Jefferson -- in that play he was alongside Cleavon Little who later played the sheriff in Blazing Saddles (he passed in 1992 at just 54 -- incidentally, that part was originally supposed to go to Richard Pryor but he was rejected by the studio, he was a co-writer of the script). I was just a kid when I saw it, but remember Helmsley was the one who got all the laughs.

cavanami
Gore Vidal He seemed to be a favorite of Hugh Hefner and was interviewed in Playboy magazine a few times. The nephew of Gore Vidal says the author, playwright and commentator has died in Los Angeles. Burr Steers says Vidal died at his home in the Hollywood Hills at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday of complications from pneumonia. Steers said Vidal had been living alone in the home and had been sick for "quite a while." The acerbic Vidal was known for such best-selling novels as "Burr" and "Myra Breckenridge," the play "The Best Man" and for essays on everything from politics and literature to sex and religion... http://news.yahoo.com/gore-vidal-celebrated-author-playwright-dies-041000762.html Myra Breckenridge...strange book, ahead of its times. Flashermac
philosophical discussions on highest intellectual level! << On the December 15, 1971 taping of The Dick Cavett Show, with Janet Flanner, Norman Mailer allegedly head-butted Vidal during an altercation prior to their appearance on the show." >> << In 1968, ABC News invited Vidal and William F. Buckley, Jr. to be political analysts of the Republican and Democratic presidential conventions. Verbal and nearly physical combat ensued. After days of mutual bickering, their debates degraded to vitriolic, ad hominem attacks. During discussions of the 1968 Democratic National Convention protests, the men were arguing about freedom of speech with regard to American protesters displaying a Viet Cong flag when Vidal told Buckley to "shut up a minute" and, in response to Buckley's reference to "pro-Nazi" protesters, went on to say: "As far as I'm concerned, the only sort of pro-crypto-Nazi I can think of is yourself." The visibly livid Buckley replied, "Now listen, you queer. Stop calling me a crypto-Nazi, or I'll sock you in the goddamn face and you'll stay plastered." After an interruption by anchor and facilitator Howard K. Smith, the men continued to discuss the topic in a less hostile manner. Buckley later expressed regret for having called Vidal a "queer," but nonetheless described Vidal as an "evangelist for bisexuality." >> << Vidal also strongly implied that, in 1944, Buckley and unnamed siblings had vandalized a Protestant church in their Sharon, Connecticut, hometown after the pastor's wife had sold a house to a Jewish family. Buckley sued Vidal and Esquire for libel. Vidal counter-claimed for libel against Buckley, citing Buckley's characterization of Vidal's novel Myra Breckinridge as pornography. The court dismissed Vidal's counter-claim; Buckley settled for $115,000 in attorney's fees and an editorial statement from Esquire magazine that they were "utterly convinced" of the untruthfulness of Vidal's assertion. >> http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Gore_Vidal
