The parliamentary session for the vote of Pita Limjaroenrat as prime minister on July 13 became a platform for discussing amendments to Section 112 of the Criminal Code or Article 112 on the monarchy.

The majority of opposition members were senators and MPs of the former ruling coalition. Many declare they are royalists. They specifically accused the Move Forward party of attempting to undermine and dismantle the monarchy by amending Article 112.

At the end of the session, Pita could not get enough votes to reach 376 of the bicameral votes. The results of the vote came out with 324 approved, 182 disapproved, and 199 abstained. Only 13 junta-appointed senators out of 250 voted for Pita...

Hi,

This is such a disgrace. The people have made it bloody clear who they want to lead the country, yet none of that matters as 250 (mostly) old guys have the power to decide.
And why abstain? It has the exact same outcome as voting 'No'.

I also fail to see why people are so hung up on the 112 issue. I though the proposed changes were very reasonable, certainly nothing drastic that would 'undermine and dismantle the monarchy'.

Sanuk!

There fixed it for you.

The senate are not even elected but we’re “Hand Picked” by Pinocchio’s lot

Some say the abstainers were unsure of his legal position re share ownership as in

  • Shares in a Media Company which stopped broadcasting in 2007
  • Shares he reported to EC and told “ No Need”
  • Shares he didn’t really own, the are part of his fathers Will which he was the executioner of.

As for 112, they are not saying “Get Rid” merely debate reforms since it has been severely misused recently. 112 is about the Monarchy but has been misused by the Dictatorship for protests against the government claiming “against the government is against the monarchy”  What a load of Bollox

Furthermore any attempt to stop debate is a sure sign of despotism and is totally against democracy. How can a democratically elected government be told what they can or cannot debate? Goes against the very basic concepts of democracy.
