I’ve now got a new fave.

Japanese cheap and cheerful, not haute cuisine, just bloody good food.

Pretty much opposite Soi 8, so from Soi 8 entrance, left and up to to the skytrain station and then down the other side. 1 minute walk for an old fella

All sorts of lovely bits and bobs, salted Beef tongue, grilled Sanma, etc. The Asahi Dry on tap is particularly welcome after the heat.

Photography aficionados can describe to me how I achieved this shot, incl waitresses. No post processing, or filters involved

I like the composition aspects as the objective elements are recognized which from my analysis was the theme of the establishment. The structure of the photograph may have been based on the waitresses and what they are doing. Photos that are taken from different angles show objects appearing different. This is more in images taken with wide-angle lenses rather than in close-up photos which leads me to think it was taken with a Smart Phone perhaps Android. You needed to take it from an angle to capture what you wanted. Shame old mate was there 😃

So Soi 11? My have to give it a go next trip. I usually stay in Soi 6.

We ate here as well and enjoyed it as well. Soi 11 more less on the corner. For Thai food, corner of Sukhumvit Soi 11/1, we like https://restaurantguru.com/Krua-Khun-Puk-Bangkok. If you are staying on Soi 8, next to Stable lodge, exit Stable lodge, go left, is Det 5 which moved from Soi 0 and is now a full blown respectable/decent restaurant. We also like Old German Beer House Soi 13 and a Korean place in “Korea town” on Sukhumvit around Soi 10 or so…first place on the right is usually our spot, but others are also good.  Seafood, the big place down on Sukhumvit near Soi 5 and a bigger place Passed Soi 3.

Shame I’m gone in 12 hrs. I woulda enjoyed a meet. Platonically of course.

Edit - I read “ate here” as “are here” - olden folk eyes.

iPhone 12. Misty effect was achieved by slowly chilling the phone in the aircon whilst eating thence taking it outside into humid warm air to mist the lenses for the photo. Cheaper than Vaseline. 😜

It's amazing how achievable a good pic is with a phone. I have been achieving outstanding results for years much to the disgust of another member who will remain nameless. One of my favorite pics I ever took was outside Siam Paragon. To look at it appears like a rendered image.

I will not deny that *some* phones can take a decent picture when 1)lucky or 2) in the hands of skilled photographer such as myself, an award winning, professional photo journalist. What phone cams and “point and shoot cameras” lack is controlability/versatility, which to be honest is becoming less and less important given the state of the art of post production apps and software. Even Photoshop, which is great but a pain in the ass to use is becoming obsolete or less a vanguard.

Mate of mine is having a retrospective at a major public gallery of 50 years of his photography, many of his current images taken on a phone and collected by big galleries.

There is a new Ghana restaurant in Bangkok which is quite like. The owner supports boxing hence how I found him. Great food, nice people not associated or near Sukhumvit.

Please elaborate on this restaurant… There was, someplace, a display of photos taken by kids with phone cams, reflecting their daily lives, quite interesting. They always say the ‘…best camera to have is the one in your hand vs the one you left home…”
