What Film (Movie) Have You Just Watched?

Recommended Posts

The Frozen Ground (2013) - true story, serial killer in Alaska.

Nicolas Cage, does a good job as the cop, Vanessa Hudgens, John Cusack  are good too.

Worth a watch, not like Cage's usual dogs, this one's a good 'un.

Some naked women in this.

One for Mekong....and myself...

It Might Get Loud (2008)

A documentary on the electric guitar from the point of view of three significant rock musicians: the Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White.

Stars: Jimmy Page, The Edge, Jack White

Classic! The Edge has some talent!! I didn't know much about Jack White but the young man can get it done!!!
Some great videos of previous concerts from all of them.

Jimmy Page, the Lord of the Rifs, a true legend.

I feel for Jack White actually, Seven Nation Army was probably IMHO th best riff written in the past 20 years or so and Jimmy Page just nailed it, bass line to begin with, don’t forget he was the bassist in the yardbirds

have youmever seeen Page on bass with Jeff Beck IMHO Beck was the man

That era brought out many bands, many short lived; Blind Faith, giving a taste of Steve Winwood. Yardbirds, yes, Derek and the Dominos, so many more. All these players had the gift. I learned guitar but I never had the gift, just too mechanical. I could read and write music, but never had that magic.
Great days, for sure!

Final Score (2018)

Stars:

Dave Bautista, Martyn Ford, Pierce Brosnan

After deadly terrorists abduct his niece at a soccer match, an ex-soldier with lethal fighting skills wages a one-man war to save her and prevent mass destruction.

Like a Die Hard, on steroids. Lots of action. Minor appearance by Pierce Brosnan.

*** 1/2

The story of the fighter plane and pilots that helped win the Battle of Britain in World War II.

Interesting history and development of the Spitfire before and during WW II.

Hurricane was the mainstay of Battle of Britain which is often overlooked, by far more hurricanes deployed and had greater kill numbers,

Spitfire came into it's own after that

There were twice as many Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain, and mostly Hurricanes at the start,

They shot down most of German aircraft, and more of the bombers - which was the key

Spitfires, a much better fighter to be honest, concentrated on the fighter escorts, it's diminished role is that frankly not enough had been built by then to actually make the numbers, whereas the older Hurricane was just far more numerically superior by a ratio of 2:1 at the start of the war.

THe spitfire is commonly called a "Thoroughbred", and the Hurricane a "Workhorse".

The Hurricane was also able to inflict more damage, but being slower but more stable platform, needed the Spitfire to let it get to the Bombers,

One famous Spitfire fighter said without both, the Battle of Britain would have been lost, and he would not have wanted to be a hurricane pilot carrying the bulk of the fighting in 1940

The SPitfire and also British Bombers raiding Germany all played important parts in the British Victory,

But all said, it was the dull workhorse the Hurricane that inflicted far greater damage that the Spitfire, and was in far more numbers than the Spitfire

And was the main contributor in winning in the Battle of Britain
