I am quite certain Central World had a good sprinkler system. However, electricity and water were shut off in the area, as part of the campaign to persuade the Red Shirts to decamp. Sprinklers don't work very well without water...

Sorry

Sprinkler and Deluge Systems are designed to function in the event of total loss of utilites, hence the reason for firewater tanks and diesel firewater "Jockey pumps" etc

FFS, in the case of major incidence one assumes total loss of outside utilities, and design the system to be stand alone.

Go Google NFPA, IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 and LEARN.

It wasn't gutted by Arsonists it was gutted by TERRORISTS who's chief paymaster was out shopping in Paris at the time.

Long bow to draw. Not sure they deliberately targeted buildings with disregard for the safety of civilians.

The time bomb they set up and left in the Four Seasons Hotel would seem to argue against you.

And the Century Plaza and a few other places...

Thanks for trying to clarify things, DS, but you are only partly right. Many Queenslanders dont consider someone a Queenslander unless they were born here, or dragged here from a very early age at the very least. Here is my very boring history:

- born in a little NSW town about 200kms south of the QLD border. Lived there till high school

- educated in Sydney, but went to Adelaide in the mid-80s for 2 long years

- joined the green machine, short stint in country Victoria then 3 years at an airfield near Toowoomba QLD

- been here ever since - roughly 20 years

I told you it was boring - I was going to add Paris and Lisbon, but realised that would be boring for most BMs too.

I just added the years up, and it appears that I am 90 years old. Amazing that I still post in Nightlife. :smirk:

Getting back to Central, has anyone seen the size of the hotel they are building on top of Central in Pattaya ? Its an absolute monster - appears the owner wants folk to fly in and live in his shopping mall for most of their holiday.

GFE had a far-away look in her eyes at the prospect of being able to move from food hall to shops to movies and back to bed when she told me about the hotel, but then came crashing back to reality with a single 'e-pensive .....'. That girl has clearly spent too much time in the company of cheapskates like myself.
