All,

Just to balance a bit on all clickable links recently in this forum, in this thread I vent my frustration for the mere fact that adult men are spending time here on a Thai - nightlife board :p to play a wargame on the internet.....

Hence this non - clickable BLANK link....... :doah:

End of venting, have a nice day killing each other of.... :neener:

Cheers !

BB,

I find it interesting. Just read the entire thread for the game in one sitting.

I notice one thing though, there seems to be a distinct separation between those (like me) who participate in the Fantasy Football, and those (like KS) who are in this type of fantasy war game. The number of people in both (like Zaad / Brink) are few who cross the lines. Any sociologist or anthropologist out there ?

My extend of computer fantasy games lasted only for the original Zork games (I hope that is the right name). This was the first fantasy computer game that you used common statements to navigate the website. Anyone remember this game ? I remember a few versions back in the early 1980's.

Damn, I love the 'net. Here is a story from back in 1983 about Zork and its programer, Marc Blank and an even longer story about the programming behind the Zork series.

Cheers!

PM,

Dont misunderstand me, I like games........ but more like a game face to face with other human beings, not nights on end in front of a screen......

I love chess and I am an avid bridge player, sometimes I like a casino game, in a real casino :)

But to spend so much time on an internet game......... and then even discuss it on a discussion board ...... that is a bit beyond me......

I can understand the Fantasy Football because there it is still about something from real life, but adults tallking about gold and soldiers and dragon skins make me smile.

Dont understand me wrong, my thread was made more as a joke, I still have to read their warplans as a mod..... well actually I dont, KS is reading it probably more than me :).

I played only 2 computergames, chess in its early days, and the first version of tetris on gameboy, 10-11 years ago.

Cheers !

I do understand your concept about the connection to the real world. For instance , I know lots of people who spend 100s of hours a month on searching for porno on the web. I have no interest. To me it's like window shopping when the store is closed. Even if you could afford it, you can't have it anyway.

As to the 'fantasy' wargames. well the computer is on anyway, so no extra time involved, so between reading an posting here, 5 minutes to match wits and strategies is a challenge. There are some clever fellows out there, and even figuring out the mindset of the programmer is fun. It has nothing to do with 'wargames', those guys play the serious animated PC games, complete with the virtual reality carnage. This is much closer to a board game, and the interaction between board members in a game is often more desirable than the hen pecking that can go on sometimes in the other forums. It is a challenge, and a mental stimulation....something I don't have much of in my real life at the moment.

But as you say, each to their own.

Hi,

"I played only 2 computergames, chess in its early days, and the first version of tetris on gameboy, 10-11 years ago."

Liar :)

You played Nong Noi as well not too long ago :)

Anyway, as you can probably guess I love games like this. Am currently playing 4 online games, have written 1 and have another 2 in production.

Sanuk!

BB,

As someone who DOES enjoy certain computer games (Half-Life is my all-time fave), I have to take issue with some of what you have said re 'genuine' interaction. I am particularly nonplussed re your statement about casino gaming : I can think of no more *soulless* place than the Casinos we have here in Oz.

Even the Roullette and Blackjack tables seem to be surrounded by dour, jaded individuals (many of them Asian, BTW) who have no interest in anything beyond the outcome of their wager. As for poker machines - dont get me started. They remain the worst thing to happen to Aussie pubs, IMO.

Chess can be every bit as insular and self-obsessed as anything on a computer screen - conversation is antithetical to both the players concentration and the spectators enjoyment. I agree that locking oneself away from society and doing nothing but play computer games is crazy, but I dont believe thats the case for the *majority* of gamers.

Ultimately, its an unwinnable argument : just do what you enjoy and try to get out of the house at least once a day :grinyes:

once a day ? you mean once every 48 turns right? and then have to time it so one doesn't miss one. Of course that is between reading every post on this board. :neener::beer:

Damn I really do need to get back to LOS :banghead: :banghead:
