Although not specifically thailand. I do know one mining engineer that was on a $US40 K retainer to work in south east asia (mainly indonesia) for an american engineering firm. Admittedly he is at the top of his field though.

When I was employed - I got just under 200 000 baht in the hand after tax.

Now I am self employed - half that, but hey, I own the company - and then pay othe's out of that!

I learnt fast I can survive on less.

However guys I know in the telco industry, mediocre players too, not very bright, earn 450 000 baht a month.

Hmmm - and to think I was offered the job and turned it down, but I just hate working for someoen else.

So - there you go - this is Satellite and associated industries by the way

I believe these types of jobs tend to be specialist field engineers working shutdowns/start-ups in large Petro Chem or Power stations. If you make $100 an hour and work 100 hours a week, it's not hard to make to make that kind of money.

Problem is, usually the jobs don't last but a couple months at most.

Spot on TH but it takes a lot longer than a couple of months to get a power station on line and the Project Managers and specialist engineers that come over from corporate HQ can b a couple of years on a job.

Hi,

Seeing that I am out of a job again, I sure would not mind if somebody had such a job for me :)

Sanuk!

Go back to USA, get a job with a Multi-National, work your ass off for about 5-10 years to prove yourself, then ask for an overseas assignment.

Simple! :cover:

The mistake people keep making is to judge the salaries by Thai standards

TH,

I take your point, but it is all relative. Any company which attempted to pay its management and staff at the same rate they enjoyed back 'home' would be in a very tough position competitively, unless those workers could somehow deliver a corresponding increase in productivity. Even here in Oz, you can expect to receieve more for the same job in Sydney or Melbourne than in other cities, simply because its more expensive to live there. Same-same London, New York, Tokyo : unless you can get subsidised housing, a lot of that fat salary is going to be eaten up by the cost of putting a roof over one's head.

I doubt that too many board members would object too strenuously to an offer of $US135K per year, regardless of where they are currently located. No, its not CEO money, but how many of us are in that sort of position ?
