Whores

Hi Jagoturner,

I will tell you why I do not use the word "whore" to address women who make ends meet by having sex.

I usually use this word for women who *deserve* as much respect as the chewing gum under my slipper. Although in special cases age, profession and gender are irrelevant for its usage.

Both my lesbian neighbors are two grand whores btw, although I'm not certain whether they have received any cash for boomboom or not.

What I'm trying to make clear here is that IMO (or perhaps in my vocabulary only) the respect-factor is too significantly present in this particular word for blind usage. Same goes for "slut". This means that I don't judge people who are complete strangers to me and therefore no (dis)respect is given from my part.

To answer your question: No, I do not wish to address prostitutes, bargirls, sexworkers, .. as "whores" unless they have earned my disrespect.

>>>I know I am nitpicking and yes I admit I am using your statement out of it's intended context Fly so don't take it too serious. I just wanted to use the above clip to make a point. <<<

i do agree to some extend that wording is important, but it easily can be brought way out of proportion (generally ending up as what we call PC).

typical things which make me cringe: "african american" (do you call a white bloke now "caucasian american"?), "sex worker" etc... i guess you as an american can bring up way more examples from the capitol and inventor of modern PC :p

>>>Interesting that is your view considering that you are the main proponent of "learn to speak Thai" on this board.<<<

yeah, but i am not a proponent of just learning polite thai. people should spend at least as much time to learn proper gutter thai. apart from being fun it also comes very useful at times... :hubba:

Maybe we all have our own cultural connotations of the word whore. I know as an American I can ask my American friends if they would use the word "whore" in the same context as they would "prostitute" and more than likely they would not.

A whore to my circle of friends, many who have never even traveled outside of the country and even indulged in P4P beyond putting a dollar in a g-string at a strip club, would be the worst element or type of prostitute. Along the lines of desperate, disease ridden filth with no redeeming value. Maybe this is why the term "crack-whore" was coined because it describes 2 of the worst elements of a decent society; crack which was demonized and whores which are considered unclean, desperate, disease ridden and dangerous.

Also whores are considered cheap in price to be used by druggies and the human trash of society, those with no personal self respect or standards. We would never equate a whore with another type of prostitute such as a Vegas call girl. Totally different perceptions. A Vegas call girl or escort is acceptable but a whore is not.

Maybe the term whore has culturally different meanings for Aussies, Brits, Spainairds, French, etc?

a ho is a ho as we say in my neighbourhood...uhhmm...perhaps not my neighbourhoood...anyway :drunk:

i have no further input on the current thread but I do remember the very first topic I ever read on the board; it was gentleman who suggested that the word 'whore' not to be used but 'sweet little angels'. I think I prefer whore :drunk::p

That is interesting becuase in my locales a "ho" is not a "whore". A "ho" could be a stripper, your little sister in high school who is a basketball groupie, a chick I'm dating, who is a successful lawyer and tried to play me against another dude, a girl at the bar trying to get me to buy her drinks, a chick in the club who doesn't want to dance with me, a chick that won't give me her phone number, the chciks dancing in the hip hop videos shaking their asses or my female manager who is a pain in the ass(actually she would be called a bitch).

A "ho" can be any chick that I don't care too much for and doesn't have my respect. Pretty much women in my family and my friends families are not "ho's" but everyone else can be a "ho". But yes a "ho" could be a "whore" but as I have shown there are many categories of "ho" and "ho'ness".

Jago I can agree with you to a point. "Whore" is a proper word and should be used when one wants to present a certain context or meaning. Unfortunately, for me I am a highly educated man and I have an extensive vocabulary. I, when I read or write, can deliniate and detect the nuances and subtleties of words and their meanings within the context of which they are said.

I fully understand how those with lesser or under developed language and communication skills will ignorantly utilize the words "whore", "prostitute", "slut", "harlot", "strumpet", "wench", "hooker", "camp follower" and the modern day term "ho", as completely fungible and interchangeble terms, with no loss to meaning. The art of language is being lost to accomodate the ignorance of the masses.

For those who like to reference dictionaries to prove the meaning or definition of a word from a technical standpoint; I would like to add that dictionaries are concise TOOLS, they do not sufficiently demonstrate how a word is to be utilized nor do they properly demostrate the context in which a word is used within a living language. I just wanted to state this before the inevitable cut and paste from a dictionary makes it way to the thread to define the word "whore".

BTW- I understand that you are making light of the word which is why I made my reply short and sweet.

Yes, the art of language is being moronized through mass media and laziness. Strumpet! Excellent word. I also prefer quim to "pussy" which IMHO is weak.
