cavanami
Just did a day trip there on Friday. Casino bus from Big C in Bangna, 200 Baht (farang price, 100 Baht for Thai). Bus leaves 8 AM. Free bus back to the Big C at 3 PM from Poi Pet (Thai side, Trat). Free buffet lunch at the Poi Pet casino, not too bad. Last time I stayed at the Diamond casino, 1000 Baht / night and they give you 500 Baht in gambling chips, so 500 Baht / night. Nice room. The 8 AM bus gets you at the Thai border at 11 AM or so and the border was empty. The other buses come in from noon to 1 PM and it gets crowded. Crossing back in to Thailand, immigration was empty, so the 3 PM bus was a good choice. Very little other than gambling there. The slots suck! never saw many playing and no big payouts. Blackjack is like a seven deck game, so very poor odds for the player. All the other usual games. Chok dee!

Old Hippie
Border crossing, Aranyaprathet-Poipet... Cambodian Border guard/Weasel... Down Town Poipet... The Border Market on the Thai side is nice, and maybe worth a visit. There is supposedly a market in Poipet, but I have never been. As noted, the Casinos are ok, and a fun diversion to the rain or a visa run. Hell, it is a fun bus ride, but go early! The first Bus leaves Mor Chit around 03:30 or so, and is a direct bus, few stops, took maybe 3 hours. Visa/paper check near Aranyaphrthet, maybe not advisable if on an over stay. Comming back, the bus took over 5 hours one time, and 7.5 another time. Worth a look maybe, if just for the fun of it, Visa is maybe $20-25 USD (They want USA money as I recall) and 2 passport photos. Enjoy!
Bangkoktraveler
Good place to go and take a dump. One internet site says poi-pet rhymes with toilet. If you have an accent, it probably does. If you are tongue tied, when you ask for toilet it might come out as poi-pet.
cavanami
...border guard / weasel... YES!!! They do try to get their hands into your pocket. Very annoying. Last Friday was the first time I went thru there and was not hassled...maybe the AK47 put them off ::
fudgyMcPacker
I noticed on google earth that there was a golf course there, has anyone played it? Looks like a 9 holer with some of the holes right along the border.
buddha
I completed my fastest/cheapest visa run ever on tuesday. Took a gamblers express bus from Lumpini Park at 6:00 am. They want 200 baht, but tell them you are only going up and they will let you slide for 100 baht. It will be empty on the weekdays. It arrived at 9:15 am and it stops about 200 yards from the border. I was processing into cambodia by 9:30 am. A border guard asked me for 1000 baht and I produced a 20 dollar bill. He told me if I paid him 300 baht he would take me through the whole process. I told him if was under ten minutes I'd give him $10 USD. He did all the paperwork for me. Walked me down to arrivals and over to departures. Twice he shood away beggers. Took about seven minutes, first rate service, I was back in Thailand by 9:45am. Had a coffee, contemplated walking around the HUGE market, and then hopped a moto to the Aranya Prathet bus station. Was on a 10:15 back to Bangkok for 207 baht. By 2:30 I was at Siam Paragon girl watching.....total expenditure less than 1500 baht....nice Poi pet has come a long way....they actually have a seperate arrival and departure building instead of a hotdog stand with falangs crowded all around, and actual PAVEMENT. Big ups to the cambo gov't....
