I clicked on those links expecting to see cute girls in Reebok half-tops! :cussing:

Instead the first one is a deluded anti-capitalist, anti-globalisation fest. I see the words "John Pilger" at the side of the page and make this face:  and then see this at the top:

New Print Edition of CounterPunch Published January 30: JoAnn Wypijewski on Labor's Battle Against Wal-Mart; Destabilizing Venezuela; DynCorp's Bosnian Sex Slaves; Nuclear Peril, Cars and Class; Congressman Pombo: Too Dumb to be Dangerous? Hitchens and Chomsky: Facing Off in Turkey? Australia's Guantanamo. Subscribe Now!

Er, I think I get the gist of where these people are coming from...

The other site's pretty bland but I see from it that they gave awards to people saving 'child prostitutes'.

Were these bar-girls "children" then? I don't think they were. So they're not being hypocritical about it, are they? There's a big difference between hiring bar-girls of legal age and indulging in 'child prostitution'.

The rest is a matter for company shareholders. And I strongly suspect you don't give a shit about any company shareholders.

75,000 employees? In your dreams I think.

Think of the costs in medical and dental insurance alone, pensions etc.

I would get at a pinch Reebok might employ in total maybe 500 or so staff.

Pretty much all the multi-nationals sub-contract

That's what I meant. http://www.reebok.com/static/global/initiatives/rights/text-only/business/suppliers.html

Footwear Reebok uses footwear factories in 14 countries. Most factories making Reebok footwear are based in Asiaâ??primarily China (accounting for 51% of total footwear production), Indonesia (21%), Vietnam (17%) and Thailand (7%). Production is consolidated, with 88% of Reebok footwear manufactured in 11 factories, employing over 75,000 workers.

So they're providing work for 75,000 people.

Just out of interest, what would these 75,000 people be doing if they weren't making Reebok shoes? Out of work, doing something else for less pay? Presumably these people are doing this job in favour of any other options because they feel it is the best for them. I mean, surely they didn't give up previously better-paid options?

Or do you think that, before Reebok, all of these "exploited" country were happy places? That they had flowery meadows and rainbow skies, and rivers made of chocolate, where the children danced and laughed and played with gumdrop smiles. :rotfl:

It distracts and so gives old Grousie an excuse to dodge the questions, that's what it does. :doah:

You may have noticed that my quote was from "Sean Penn" in the movie Team America.

Another one was put into the mouth of "Tim Robbins" and sums up the typical lefty media understanding of business.

â??Let me explain to you how this works: you see, the corporations finance Team America, and then Team America goes out... and the corporations sit there in their... in their corporation buildings, and... and, and see, they're all corporation-y... and they make money.â?Â

:)

I suspect, from what he has been saying, that Famous Grouse thinks like this too. Automatic negative emotional responses to globalisation and big business rather than proper fair logical reasoning or understanding.

So what is it that disgusts you? The extravagant expence accounts? The whores? If the directors take their wives along with their best customers on a junket is that OK? Or should they just forget promotions altogether and pay the money to shareholders in dividends or employee bonuses?

That difficult to grasp Chuckie?

That executives spend hard earned company money on sanuk for themselves whilst those who work to make the money come in get peanuts.

I suppose it's called equal distribution of profits?
