Most tourists in their 20's in LOS wearing shorts and slippers flip-flops are not here primarily for sex and are back-packers or couples in their 20s on a holiday package to somewhere "romantic" and "exotic" ("OOhhh Dazza... isn't it so exotic here... much nicer than the Costa Del Sol! Hey - let's go and get one of those drinks in a coconut!!" "Good idea, Shaz... I want a paper um-ber-ella in mine!" "Oooooo Dazza... I can't wait to get to Foo-Ket tomorrow... its going to be SOOOOOO romantic down there at Patpingpong Beach!") Those sorts. (Will people PLEASE stop calling flip-flops slippers!! Slippers are what you wear with a smoking jacket whilst smoking a pipe in front of a fire! - In Australia we wear Ugg Boots, not slippers. (Unless your over 50). Google it). They see a TG with a farang, they assume she is a hooker...all this until other wise clarified by actually talking to them/us...if they even have to bother at all. Frankly, I think many Thais in general look down on us farangs for a whole magnitude of reasons, sex tourist being just one of them. "90% are sex tourists"??? then how come the bars are empty while the planes landing at swampyphoom are full? sexpats may find it hard to believe, but there's more to thailand than nep and pattaya. chelseafan Posted June 25, 2007 Report Share Posted June 25, 2007 I can put myself in the 10%, I go to thailand for the beaches, pleasent atmosphere, learn a little more thai, socialise, travel around, enjoy the food, buy goods cheaply to take home and generally have a good time. I confess I have been to a massage parlour and BJ bar but thats about it for me. It doesn't mean I take the moral high ground or anything, thats just what I enjoy. Anyhow, LOS has that image (globally) of being a sex tourists paradise, but its like saying that everyone in Holland smokes dope or Everyone in England wears a bowler hat or that all amercians are dumb. Theres a lot more to LOS than messing around with the girls, but I still stand by my statement that the high majority of guys who came to LOS are there for "the pleasures". 90% may be on the high side, but proportionaly its got to be more than any other country in the world. Also you ask why the bars are empty, perhaps the guys are meeting their teeruks. Something like I spent some time with a bargirl when I was first time in Samui but didn't realize first she was a prostitute. Or that I have visited Pattaya and Bangkok gogo-bars with friends just to see what they are like and don't have need to go there anymore. Some tkae it but others don't. Those who don't probably weren't the perfect match for me anyway so no worries. The prostitution is everywhere in Thailand and over 90 percent of Thai guys fuck hookers so it must be clear we are not that much better either. But when I was younger it was easy to play clueless and they always believed my stories. Even heard some English drunks discussion about me and my companion when I was watching show in Long Gun that "that couple must be here just for the show. Must be fun for a young guy to take a normal girl to a gogo-bar" or something like that.
