About 8 years ago I was accosted by a cop at Ekkamai after I got off a bus. I was approached by 5 cops who immediately had their hands in my pockets,in my bag etc etc.

It took me a moment to get my wits about me.I had nothing illegal and demanded in Thai to call a friend which I did, who then spoke to the cops, who then waied me,apologized and I walked away.

My fear was they would plant something then blackmail me. My friend saved the day- and yes he is abig deal...Noo friends like that could mean a big problem.

Dont carry anything anywhere that not legal.

Sorry for your stress. Glad you made it out for only 10k but thats alot. :(

This is kind of an aside, but whenever I have been in LOS, I never carry my passport with me in the street and leave it in the vault of my hotel room, unless I go where I know I need it.

The reason, I don't want to lose it, or the departure card, which can be a lot of extra hassel if that is lost.

I usually have a photocopy of the pertainant page with me.

So is this a good or bad idea?
