To bring the thread back on track, as dddave admitted he was in possesion of Type 4 Restricted Narcotic as defined by Controlled Drugs Classification Thailand Cannabis is Type 5 and carries less of a charge.

It could of been far worse than the 10,000 THB tea money, dddave could have been charge with possesion of a Controlled Substance deported and declared personna non gracia so at 10K he got of light. The police know this and as such any offence a farang is found to be committing has its price dependent on the severity, and as crazy as it may seem to us possesion of unprescribed Vit V or Kamagra is the same classification as LSD in Thailand. (read the Link if you don't believe me)

Its a known fact that Thai police are underpaid and under equipped and they make it up via shakedowns, as dddave said he was probably profiled as a victim of a shakedown based on the company he was with and where he had just arrived from, BiB could sniff a good earner, farangs in bus depots on average have more money about their person than the average Thai passenger and more to loose if they don't play ball.

dddave Chalk it down to experience and if you are going to break the law keep a low profile!

Mekong....

I know I'm a dum cnut...BUT...this is something I was not aware of.....and I'm sure a lot of other guys are in the same position...

For farkkks sake...

Walk into "almost" any Pharmacy and you can buy Vit "V", "K" or whatever...no problems

Yet, by Law it's classified at the same level as Acid!!!! WTF :dunno::dunno:

Wonder if we can expect the BiB to start nabbing falangs as they leave "known" Pharmacy's :dunno::dunno:

Thanks for sharing this info....think I might stick to "herbal remedies" in future...lol

...Then again...walking around with a carton of Mars Bars under your arm (instead of a young TG) might just tip off the BiB as well...lol

Cheers DS

I don't have much sympathy for the OP.

1. Don't just meekly give in to bullshit scams. Challenge the wankers.

2. Never pay them money. Tell them you want to go to court! They'll probably let you go as soon as they figure there's no money in it for them and you are going to expose them. (read the case of a freelancer crying rape in the phillipines where the police obviously in conjunction with the freelancer tried to shake a guy down for several thousand dollars. The guy decided to take it to court and the police didn't even show up)

3. By giving into the scam you are ensuring it'll be continued.

4. If you are going to use viagra etc then use all of it at the hotel and don't travel with it.

5. If its sold in shops then is it illegal? At least its an arguable point. You said you bought it in cambodia but you can buy it in thailand so why the fuck would that worry you?

They want money out of you. As soon as they figure out its not going to be that easy they'll let you know and look for the next fish. I've had bad experiences before on that bus back from pattaya not always involving the police. Take a cab its really not that expensive.

just some punk pushed in front of me in the line to get on the bus. he decided i was farang and he was thai so the line didnt apply to him. so i stepped back in front of him when he paused and then he started hitting me in the legs with his bag when i was on the stairs. i turned to him and told him to fuck off. he didnt know what to do so then when i was going to sit down he tried to hip and shoulder me. again i told him to fuck off. so then when we got to ekkamai i waited for everyone else to get off the bus and i turned around and he was sitting there waiting for me. i got up and he followed me thru the carpark as if it would intimidate me. i couldve snotted the jerk but there were lots of thais around and we all know what happens to farangs in that situation.

TIT and YMMV

Sometimes you can "just say no" other times they will go the full nine yards with you.

One time and one time only, I was able to skate around the BiB when I told them, sorry, I flying back home tomorrow and would not be able to go to the police station to pay my fine...the BiB let me go...maybe would have worked for Dave, maybe not. I have gone a few rounds with other BiB and they were as hard as nails and would not give one inch

Exactly. No way in hell this could cause a serious problem for the OP if he had challenged them. His offence, if indeed it was an offence, was so minor that if demanded beeing taken to the police station would cost him max a couple of hundred bath.

There is this deep rooted urban legend in the foreign community that police can do whatever they want, but they can't. They need a court order to deport you for Christ sake. Then again, maybe the OP had some more monkey business he feared would come uncovered, like working illegally...

Anyway, I agree with the OP that he fit the profile, the police were probably looking for guys that looked like [Removed - KS].
