That day in July was one that Tammy Morse won't soon forget. Five months earlier, her husband lost his job as a recruiter for the financial services industry. Once the family savings were gone, the mother of two from Stratford, Conn., saw no way to get health insurance coverage for her family other than to apply for Medicaid...

We need to do something here...people can't afford medical insurance, companies can't afford to give it as a benifit, so what is the answer?

The days of saying "...they have it in XYZ country and it sucks..." don't cut it anymore. I work with guys who are getting laid off, and are facing having to pay $1200++ a month to insure their families. This is in addition to deductibles and copayments. Something has to change, people just cannot afford it.

... and XYZ country has a higher life expectancy. The USA has "universal" health care now but it is the most expensive and least effective form, the hospital emergency room.

If you got laid off in Germany then the government would pay your premiums.

PS: Suggest they look at Blue Cross to see if they have a more affordable health plan.

This is the point.

The US pays more for health care than any other country.

But no one wants to pay for that homeless smuck. And when that homeless smuck does get health care it is the emergency room at the highest cost and the others and taxpayers pay his/her bill.

I get free health care - thanks to Ho Chi Minh. So I don't have a dog in this fight.

But the system in place now in the USA is broken.

With universal health care there is preventative medicine. Much cheaper than waiting for extensive treatments in the emergency rooms.

Move to Canada is a little lame now and I agree with Mr. Hippie.
