THREE FOREIGNERS FOUND DEAD IN THREE DAYS IN PATTAYA

Deaths of foreigners in Pattaya have been a regular feature in our news reports over the years, but it is rare indeed when we have to relate the discovery of three dead foreigners over the course of 3 days.

 

On the 1st July 2009 at 1.30 pm , Police Lieutenant Colonel Ekadit Srimoon was notified that a foreign man had been found dead in the toilet of the Jai Yen Yen guesthouse, located at 144/139 Jomtien Soi 2, Jomtien Beach Road

 

At the four storey commercial building with a bar on the ground floor, police found the dead body of Mr. Thorleif Evald [51], a Swedish national, lying on his right side on the floor of the toilet. He was wearing army patterned pants and white t-shirt. There was no evidence of fighting or any wounds on his body.

 

Police were told that the deceased had been living at room number B202 of an apartment in Soi Bongkot, South Pattaya. He had arrived on his purple Yamaha Meo motorbike, reg. no. 176 Chonburi, to eat at the restaurant. After finishing his meal he went to the toilet and he accidentally fell on the floor. The shop owner had called the ambulance to take him to the hospital but unfortunately he died while waiting.

 

 

 

Police officials recorded the death and sent the body for autopsy at the police hospital in Bangkok to find the actual cause of death. The investigation into the case will continue.

 

 

On the 2nd July at 2:40 pm , Police Lieutenant Colonel Sumet Harnwisai, of the Dongtan branch, received notification that a man had been found dead at house no. 102/24 Soi 3 Moo. 9, Nongprue.

 

At the two storey townhouse, in the bedroom on the second floor, police found the dead body of Mr. Frank Rainer Knittel [65], a German national, slumped over the edge of the bed. He was wearing only black patterned shorts. The police estimated he had been dead for about 3-4 days. There was no sign of foul play. Personal belongings including valuables were found intact. Several medicines for sexual stimulation were found ion the room.

 

 

 

A neighbour, Mrs. Mouy Kahsoi, said the man had been living in the house for more than three years and he had always taken different girls from the bars to accompany him. She said she hadn’t seen him for about a week and decided to contact the police when she noticed a bad smell coming from his room. She told police she remembered Mr. Knittel had a Rolex watch worth around 200000 baht. The police searched for it but found it was missing from the room and suspected it may have been taken by his last companion.

 

 

 

Initially, the police assumed that Mr. Knittel had died of heart failure or congenital disease. However his body would be sent for autopsy and the German Embassy in Bangkok would be informed.

 

 

On the 3rd July at 10:50 am, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prajuab Senta of the Pattaya police was notified that a foreign man had been found dead in a room in a nine storey condo in Soi Nokkao, Central Pattaya, Moo. 9 , Nongprue.

 

In room no. 16/249, on the 8th floor, police found the dead body of Mr. Sjur Tirin [38], a Norwegian national lying face up on the floor in front of the bathroom. He was wearing a long sleeved grey shirt and underpants. His body was covered in tattoos. His mouth was bleeding but police found no evidence of foul play or any wounds on his body. They presumed he had been dead for about 5 hours.

 

The condo security guard told the police that Mr. Tirin had checked in to the condo with his foreign friend about one month before. On the day of the incident, the security guard was doing his rounds and passed the room when he found the door was slightly open. He saw the man was lying in front of the bathroom and when he walked in to investigate he found he was dead.

 

 

 

Mr. Bruno [40], who lived in the same room went out in the early morning that day and left his friend alone in the room. He was informed about his friend’s death by the security guard and rushed back to the room. Mr. Bruno said Mr. Tirin did not have any congenital disease, but he had an alcohol problem and was always drunk.

 

After investigating the area and questioning witnesses, police suspected the man died from over consumption of alcohol. They filed the death report and the body would be sent for autopsy and the Norwegian embassy informed accordingly.

I recall a line from the musical "War of the Worlds" with a slight change ... the chances of anyone staying alive in Thailand are a million to one but still they come.

 

Old men with new drugs (sex supplements) and old ones (alcohol) trying to perform like young men ... ah well, it's sad but I have an old Irish friend who visits Thailand 2-3 times a year for a month or two. He tells me, many times (his memory is a bit shot) that he rather go out under a bar girl or two then die lonely in an old age home.

 

It is always a pleasure having a beer with him at the Aussie bar on soi 7/1 Sukhumvit and that he enjoys life ... so sometimes, I accept they take the risk for the sake of pleasure.

 

However, it may be frightening that some girls who could be associated with these incidents may be using stronger knock out drops.
