ThaiHome
Here is an interesting link that summarizes the conflicts with Euorpeans going back 1622. Link It took 200 years but by the mid 19th century all the eastern tribes had been taken care of. The plains and western tribes only took about 50 years, but got a lot more publicity (particularly in movies). TH

khunsanuk
Hi, Yep, that one works. Interesting that the list is referred to as 'a representative survey of conflicts between Native Americans and Europeans over three centuries' while about halve of the conflicts involved the US Army. Flashermac
The first recorded conflict was between the Vikings and the "Skraelings". The Injuns could win over the Vikings because of numbers and firepower (bows and arrows). That was centuries before Columbus "discovered" the Caribbean islands. Old Hippie
As I pointed out, a lot of the slaughter was done to "make the west safe" for European settlers. The Indians not killed directly by the Euro Settlers themselves were killed by the U.S. Calvary on their behalf. Just look at the time frame, and see that western expansion coincides with large influxes of European settlers.
