Unlike America who actually were concerned to some extent what our reputation was, the chinese, after they gain power won't give a flying f**k.

They have shown concern in recent years only because they still needed the U.S. and world approval for things like hosting the Olympics, etc.

Eventually they'll have the power where they'll feel no need to coddle anyone.

There are signs already.

India has already had its border battles with them. So has Vietnam. A Vietnamese colleague told me as kids they would why parents (north and south) had fought fighting each other so viciously. He said China is VN's naturally enemy - and there has been a war with China in almost every generation.

After the US took the Philippines as spoils of the Spanish-American War, the US proclaimed them a "commonwealth" - not a colony - and set a date for independence (decades in the future). Rather an interesting play on words to try to hide what was as much imperialism as the European colonial empires were.
