Next in Line for a Bailout: Social Security

http://finance.yahoo.com/focus-retirement/article/108747/next-in-line-for-a-bailout-social-security?mod=fidelity-readytoretire

Don't look now. But even as the bank bailout is winding down, another huge bailout is starting, this time for the Social Security system.

A report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that for the first time in 25 years, Social Security is taking in less in taxes than it is spending on benefits.

Instead of helping to finance the rest of the government, as it has done for decades, our nation's biggest social program needs help from the Treasury to keep benefit checks from bouncing -- in other words, a taxpayer bailout...

Not really true. All the money people have paid into Social Security - it never got to Social Security. You don't have an account, ..... never did.

The money was sent to the IRS and they use that money each month to pay Social Security benefits and whatever is left over, goes to the General Fund. Right now, 40% of the budget comes from money gleen from Social Security and Medicare.

At the White House website is a talk GWB gave and he claimed the USA is not going to pay any of the money back.

[color:red]What our Government has done really is criminal.[/color]

This fiasco might be the final straw.

Nothing (in terms of populace uprising politically or otherwise) will happen. At least I have my serious doubts. We've had a series of very big events (911; financial meltdown, etc.) and nothing has happened of consequence.

The american people don't understand the vagaries of social security. Its an esoteric concept to 99% of us.

Collectively, we're the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot of water. Right now we're collectively boiling and the vast majority are either too ignorant or too apathetic to do anything about it.

All this 'taking our government back' talk by a lot of groups are really a veiled political party power grab and marketing ploy. Its nothing to do with taking our government back but keeping a political party in power.

It (this experiment of a republic we've had for almost 3 hundred years) is over. Toqueville was right. Marx and Lenin were right as well about us (we'll be our own worse enemy) but wrong about the alternative.

The Republic is a little over 200 years old.

As for Social Security, the government has made no efforts over the years to correct the problems. All they do is lie to the people by telling them such crap as Social Security is bankrupted.

The country is bankrupted and the country has no intentions of paying back what they took from Social Security.

The politicans only care about themselves.

...and bankers!

Now reading "The Creature from Jekyll Island"...about how the US got the Federal Reserve pushed thru in 1913. The seven men that went to Jekyll Island (off Georgia) held 25% of the wealth of the world!!! and they were fuckin bankers and politicians!!!

Countless upon countless times the bankers/Federal Reserve/politicians have severely fucked over the US people and often the world!!!

600 pg book, lots of info, details, quotes...

Not one politician seriously wants to look at Social Security and Medicare and tell the public that all of the politicians of the past since the inaugration of these programs conned the 'American' people out of the largest amount of money in history via a ponzi scheme.

What a disgrace! Our country is ruined and........ she might take with her some other countries.

The US modeled much after the UK and Europe; example the UK and German banking systems, as they both have a Central Bank, thus the US has our equiv with the Fed Reserve.

Maybe the UK, Germany and other countries are having the same problems?

Open floor to our cousins in the UK and EU...
